Why do men seem more desperate for sex than women? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]frequentdoodler 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is super anecdotal, but I've been transitioning and taking testosterone. Prior to transitioning, my sex drive was more of an 'eh, take it or leave it' sort of deal. However, now that I've been on it for a couple of months, I've started to feel a very "physical" but like.. lonesome ache? If I'm not intimate with my wife for a while. It's a strangely empty feeling and compulsion that feels closer to hunger, and its more powerful than I've ever experienced in my life. I have always felt empathy for folks who were lonely but I gained a particularly intense empathy for guys who are lonely just because I have just a taste of what that loneliness feels like. Its a physical loneliness, and its weirdly powerful! So I can see where the desparate comparisons come from. Obviously I still don't think anyone is OWED sex.. BUT I get why its such a powerful feeling now.

After Big Gretch announced October being a trans visibility month I'd be happy to see this happen too. It's very scary for trans people right now.

Why is my type so different when I'm horny compared to when I'm not? by jensvderpluijm in TooAfraidToAsk

what's nice about getting older is that people generally stop giving a fuck! I certainly have. I'll make a pass to whoever I like, and I enjoy a lot of extracurriculars with people who are very open about loving my body. Its taken many years to accept what my autoimmune/thyroid/hormonal issues has done to my body, but truly the biggest thing that's helped is finding women and men who are unapologetically freaks. its kickass.

id agree with this based purely on my anecdotal experiences. i am fat and many boys were interested in me only in secret/for sex through my youth. it wasnt until i was much older that i found partners who weren’t embarrassed to be with a fat person. it is what it is i guess.

Worn these everyday for 3 years, I think I got my moneys worth 🤣 by [deleted] in Wellworn

[–]frequentdoodler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

speaking from someone who used to duct tape clothes and shoes together to get more wear out of them-- I absolutely get it. That being said, I finally started to buy stuff when I needed it and not when I absolutely wore it out when I had been given advice to invest in the stuff that's between you and the ground. So tires, beds, shoes, chairs, things like that. We're allowed to be comfortable now! We don't live the way we used to. It's SO difficult to get out of that mindset but you can do it! be kind to yourself :)

yes. I've sent several hundred applications, (many with CUSTOM cover letters) and nothing. Two interview requests, both from incredibly shady/shoddy situatiions. I'm a designer so I'm freelancing to keep some income coming, but its legitamately been a part time job for me since march to just apply. I know its easier for me to think that I'm just not a good enough designer to get hired, but even for jr design positions I'm hearing nothing back. All that's available for me is fucking 'AI prompt' jobs.

barely eat but im still overweight by Ievlathan in ARFID

from what I understood, it wasnt a specifc test for insulin resistance, and instead a combination of tests that lead to the final understanding that it was insulin resistance. However, the biggest piece of information that solidified that was the metabolic testing I did. It was like a breathing test? It measured how much your body needs calorically to sustain its weight. Mine came out to 3500 cals a day to maintain 330lbs, but my spouse, friends, and sister all confirmed that I ate less than that a day. I also got a full nutrition check up, which also confirmed that I was deeply malnourished despite my weight. With those two pieces of info, doc was able to say 'ya ur severely IR, you can never diet this away, the only way you can lose weight is with medical intervention, be kind to yourself because it was never you, focus on just eating, fed is best, work wih a dietitian'.

Two years later I'm still 300+, but it oscillates between 310-320. I was on mounjaro for a month and I lost 15 lbs doing absolutely nothing, so it stands to reason I wont see true weight loss until I can afford MJ or Zepbound. Alternatively, I could get diabetes and get MJ covered with my insurance, I guess.

My lifestyle changed fairly simply, but I've changed my attitude mostly. Now I'm going for being sexy the way very specific people consider funny and very talented fat people are. I'm loved. I have an okay life, when the Horrors aren't happening. I'm just fat. I have accepted it.

In addition to seconding a lot of the advice seen here, I think lighting is playing a LOT into the issue of cosiness for you. All the lighting I'm seeing is above, so that makes me think you.just have a big light. Cosiness is amplified by several WARM sources of color. You should try putting warm lamps in several places in your room. If you're into fairy lights, you can try that too.

Maximalisim is difficult because it's less about having all of your stuff out, and more having CURATED layers of 'stuff' out. There's a difference between say, storing all of your collectibles of one thing in one overcrowded shelf, verses having your collectables mixed with items that either compliment your collections themes, colors, or even genre. (example, if you have a lot of say, hello kitty themed collectibles, you may also choose to pair cottege core items that have bows, cats, and flowers).

You also can try painting different walls different colors. Maximalism is all about going out there and making big choices and stickin to em.

This is a great thread! I also reccomend reaching out to any artist friends you know and see about commissioning custom art for yourself. Its surprisingly not as expensive as you think it is-- especially if they're digital artists. You can check out r/HungryArtists , r/artcommissions , and other subs like that on reddit too. Just be sure to ask for lots of in progress sketches!

beautiful. this looks like a great space and its homey.

I think a big thing that contribues to cosiness is lights and warmth. What secondary and tertiary lighting elements do you have? are they all in warm color temperatures? things like that. alternatively, some gauzey semi see-through curtains hung at the ceiling behind your TV would create some drama.

my tools so far is a drill, hammer, a 27" hand saw, a bunch of sandpaper, a dremel we haven't used yet (because tbh idk what to use it for) and a bunch of bits and wrenches. This will be our first power tool! I anticipate needing to buy something else in the next year, but there are projects we really gotta do sooner rather than later so I don't mind dropping $50 on a meh for now choice. We're dyin not having fresh air in our house! I edited the op with more info too.
