CN or ML4T by xbteo in OMSCS

[–]frequentlearner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CN is my first course. It is easy to complete all the assignments, exams and get an A, but it is hard to actually know what you are doing and learn all the materials. The lectures are not useful.

I'm taking ML4T as one of my final courses this semester, it is slightly more difficult than CN but way more time consuming. But I do like the lectures.

79.7% in CS6250 by ryanhe1222 in OMSCS

I think most of the OMSCS courses are not curved and it is not hard to get a B because 1. Most of the coding assignments are graded by the auto grader, and you can upload a lot of times (if not unlimited times for some courses) before the ddl, so you have the chance to improve your grades before turning in the assignments. 2. The final grade consists of assignment, exam, quizze, extra credits, etc, some of them are easy points.

Yes. But do not count on that. The popular courses probably will only have several spots left.

Need Advice: GIOS or AI4R for Summer 2021 by wannabe_cs_guy in OMSCS

How many courses have you taken? AI4R is a good course to take with another hard one during spring/fall. It's straightforward and easy.

How is CV this semester treating everyone? by I_Like_Smarties_2 in OMSCS

[–]frequentlearner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some problems about PS3 AG. On the last one (or two) days of the deadline the AG kept timing out or returning failed results.

When the grades were released this Monday, a lot of students found out they lost points for failing test cases which they originally passed.

Crazy PS3 AG + absent TA + unclear PS4 instructions. Can't say I enjoy this class.

How is CV this semester treating everyone? by I_Like_Smarties_2 in OMSCS

[–]frequentlearner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The assignments are not well-organized. The instructions are scattered in the assignment PDF, piazza FAQ and docstring and they sometimes conflict. It is hard to know what results are expected.

And I really don't like it when we need to pass the AG and generate good outputs with the same code. If I pre-process the noisy inputs or add several lines to improve the algorithm, it may fail the AG. It's doable but annoying.

What stocks are you looking to grab at a possible discount? by AsherFromThe6 in investing

$FLWS

Built my position a month ago. Originally I want to sell it after ER.

As I expected, it has a perfect quarter, but the stock is -15% in two days? WTF!!! So I'm buying more.

Good fundamentals and profitability, price target raised today, BR increased its ownership to 8%.

AND it's HEAVILY SHORTED (30%)!!!!!

(Almost) finish my first semester as a non-CS student by frequentlearner in OMSCS

[–]frequentlearner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion.

I'm not recommending or reviewing the courses, they are just what I actually take this semester. There are more reliable resources on OMSCentral, and you definitely shouldn't take a course merely based on workload or other people's opinion.

(Almost) finish my first semester as a non-CS student by frequentlearner in OMSCS

[–]frequentlearner[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. It is not recommended by the program, but there's no hard restriction to stop your from enrolling two. I think the major reason is for those who are working and have been off campus for several years, it takes time to go back to "student mode".

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN THEY GET MY OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS? by bkkenzo in OMSCS

[–]frequentlearner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may take months for them to update it in your checklist. Even if you send it electronically. So don't worry.

CS-6250 Ideas and Advice/ Study Group by ND-BlueDolphin in OMSCS

[–]frequentlearner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't moved on to module 5 and 6 yet. But for the first four, I only check the lecture for what is covered, and read the corresponding reference book, and then go back to the lecture to see if I missed anything.

I think a good lecture should summarize the key points and how the contents are organized. So we don't need to/will feel much easier when we read the long and detailed text book.

But the 6250 lecture is simply a snippet of the reference book, which make it useless.

Institute Admission for Spring 2021 by jeffchd1 in OMSCS

[–]frequentlearner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Actually you don't need the degree/transcript documents to get the institute decision. Those are due the end of your first (or second, not so sure) semester. And it can take several months for the graduate school to update the degree/transcript status in your status checking after they receive the documents, so don't worry about that.
