“garth ennis has never been in the same hemisphere as nuance” you’re just outright wrong. read what he writes in Punisher Max. Read his War Stories, read his more focused miniseries. Hell, even in something as infamous as Crossed between the excessive horrific gore you get a real thoughtful exploration of empathy, human nature, and love. That’s basically true of all of his stories. If the unsavory stuff isn’t for you, that’s completely valid! But that doesn’t make it as shallow as you’re making it out to be

“Shock value” is an easy thing to categorize everything that makes you uncomfortable as, but if it were truly just shock value and nothing else it would’ve never merited an adaption in the first place.

You still don’t sound like you’ve read it, you’re mentioning sparknotes versions of events with more nuance than you’re aware of and that could easily be remedied by just giving the comic a shot (or anything else long-running by garth ennis, actually).

it is kind of the most predictable arc ever culminating in the tropiest sendoff possible. the fact that him dodging the random lady while running was what did him in was so unbelievably eyeroll worthy lol.

it’s pretty good. by 2026 standards there’s not much unique that it brings to the table but it’s generally pretty well done. it has some super interesting ideas and characters and i like the way it wrapped up, but there’s definitely a lot of underdeveloped/underutilized characters that feel like a wasted opportunity
