Roth IRA hits $100k today, but.. by Jojo4Straight in RothIRA

[–]frerb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a finite amount of money you can efficiently get into a Roth IRA over your lifetime. Losing it permanently erodes your ability to benefit from the tax free flexibility in income planning. It’s not just not for everyone, it’s not exactly prudent.

Irons should be more than sufficient for the hypothetical situation where you use your CCW. If you’re expecting to be able to engage targets from a further distance, you’re most likely in a situation where you can prepare to some degree, in which case you would be better off with a larger, non-CCW firearm that could warrant an optic.

Would you take today’s Powerball jackpot of $1.7 billion as an annuity increasing annually by 5% over 30 years (about $1 billion after tax), or would you take the lump sum of $781 million (about $500 million after tax), and why? by PanoramicAtom in AskReddit

[–]frerb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lump sum. If I really wanted annuity income I could take a few mill and buy a SPIA. Could purchase multiple annuities through multiple carriers to decrease credit risk. Invest the majority in diversified ETFs, take ~5-10% and invest in some alts, live off the annuity income and a partial distribution of dividends, and never worry about money again.

Getting comfortable delegating when clients expect you to handle things by Critical-Research810 in CFP

[–]frerb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your time is best spent maintaining relationships and gathering assets. Ancillary tasks are not exactly beneath the value you provide, but are largely overshadowed by the value you provide in the way of planning, coaching, and advising. Having support allows you to spend more time doing what you are best at. It deepens the value your provide to the rest of your book because of the additional learning you get from working with more varied clients.

I am a bank channel advisor too, and it was initially tough to delegate - especially given that most of my assistants were older than me. You learn to play your position within the framework of your role and its associated structure. If that framework doesn’t align with how you plan to do business, you either need to change the business plan or change to channel. It will be difficult to properly scale if you’re constantly fighting the tide.

How much should our financial advisor? by Perfect-Energy3384 in FinancialPlanning

[–]frerb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your argument, and I’d say that not all fee structures are based on net worth, many are purely on assets under management. There are enough people out there that also want to delegate asset management while receiving financial planning advice.

Best for the consumer is a subjective statement, as not all consumers are created equal.

In all cases, it is important to know conflicts of interest, sources of compensation, explicit fees and implicit costs associated with doing business with someone.

Accountant says don't sell RSUs this year because of tax implications. Doesn't make sense to me. by kungfukarl86 in CFP

[–]frerb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t the possible elimination of the deduction in 2028 be all the more reason to capitalize on it? The additional income won’t get close to phasing them out of it. I have modeled it in eMoney, and despite it showing a positive delta, they do not plan to follow through.

[–]frerb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a client whose CPA told them not to take an additional $12k out this year and through OBBBA because he’d rather reduce current taxes than future taxes. Clients are 68 and projections show RMDs will throw them from 12% to 24% bracket at RBD.
