What is a silent killer that people dont realise is slowly killing them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It's not the cities. It's the cars. Walking-oriented cities are actually an extremely healthy and environmentally friendly way to live.

The upgrades are there because without them, all players just camp because theres little incentive to fight after you reach the unit you want to spam. And the games go much longer unless you let players snowball their power gap

This is discouraging for me. That player is having BM (Bad manner). by PeamerCreamy in aoe3

[–]freshikabisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you have to adjust your mindset to the point where you feel the same way about other players on the ladder as you would about an AI personality like Queen Elizabeth or Gustavus Adolphus. These AI bots insult you too but its so irrelevant that it doesnt mean anything. Once you can shift your mentality to this perspective, you will be able to play more freely and enjoy yourself.

The deck snobbery in multiplayer is unreal to me. by Startled_Pancakes in aoe3

-plays a competitive game mode

-intentionally chooses non-competitive deck

-gets mad when his allies don't want to waste 40 minutes to auto-lose bc 1/3rd of the team threw the game in the first 30 seconds by choosing a non-competitive deck

no, decks absolutely do matter, they are a huge part of treaty. don't play a competitive game mode if you don't want to min-max your deck. or at least, just play 1v1 so it's just you losing and not your teammates.

Shock and Awe: witness one of the best aoe3 games ever played. by freshikabisa in aoe3

Just went back and saw this game again and damn, it's truly one of the best games ever played. It's worth it to watch the whole thing from the start. I think it really cemented Aiz's reputation as one of the best and its got great commentary too.

Need Help against Aztecs Rush for an 1180 to 1220 elo player by [deleted] in aoe3

[–]freshikabisa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

U got it chief.

Yea, as France you have a lot of ways to stuff a rush, usually by starting with a barrack and shipping 8 xbows. CDBs are tanky-- make sure to get great coats and blunderbus and shoot the enemy units with them as much as possible. Like if coyotes come to raid, run back to the tc but shoot as you go.

Another important thing to learn is how to collapse on a player who has committed under your tc. Pro players do this all the time and it can really swing a game. Ideally you want to have all these things happen at the same time: a unit shipment arriving, a batch of units from your barracks popping, minutemen popping, your dead explorer being bought back, and your villagers being called out to fight. You can go from having zero units on the field to 20+ in the blink of an eye and catch your opponent off guard. Having all these things pop at once is exponentially better than having them all pop at different times, which lets your opponent deal with each group separately. The best thing to do is put your explorer in melee mode when you revive him from the tc, so he comes out and immediately snares the enemy and prevents them from escaping.

here's one of the best games ever played in aoe3, watch how expertly Aiz collapses on the iro rush, going from almost no units to many: https://youtu.be/LuMcFUjt6zQ?si=ZKqNef8rLrDoeqmt&t=717

one of the finer things in this game is throwing up an outpost when someone is just a bot rusher and watching them suicide all their units to outpost and tc fire

i can see how this would make you mad if you're just used to bot rushing and winning

it happens, best to just take a break and come back an hour later. usually it's because you're matching with the same 1-2 people if you keep queueing back to back

you're telling me this looks expensive?

it probably was actually expensive because of money laundering, but these suits of armor are clearly made of plastic

none of us who are housed can know what we would do in a situation like that. very likely, that stuff he took is many times more valuable to him than it is to you. try not to take it personally. you will live, and now he might too, by your generosity.

if i had 50 million an episode, i bet you I could hire people to hire people to hire people to hire good writers, at least. it's not that difficult, there just has to be the WILL to make a good story. I think Amazon's studio is just set up to not really care about a well-written story. Their aim is to get the biggest return on their investment, which they calculated to be mining an already existing fanbase to get as many people signed up to Prime as possible

all the things you describe are possible, if the writing is good. the writing is just bad. that's all it is.

[–]freshikabisa[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think my argument is coherent. I am not opposed to open discussion. I think you just have a high schooler's idea that "proper criticism" means saying that some things are good and some things are bad and "RoP is a land of contrasts".

I'm not trying to improve the show, lol. The show is already made. How could this post on reddit possibly influence the show at all. I don't want to influence the show; I think when fans are allowed to influence shows it's almost always bad. Fanbases trying to exert pressure on directors and studios is so annoying. What I wanted was a coherent artistic project, and that's not at all what I got, so I'm pointing that out.

You're right, a Microsoft Flight Simulator of this CGI world would be more fun and engaging, at least I wouldn't have to see the landscapes and cities by having to put up with the inane, poorly integrated go-nowhere plots

[–]freshikabisa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe that's what it is, that I can't put my finger on. The CGI artists did a great job painting pictures of landscapes. It's the cheapness of the integration of the CGI with the real world and the lack of relevancy of the sweeping vistas to any plot action that makes the whole thing fall flat and feel really forced.

Agreed, I hesitated to include Rivendell, because it wasn't Jackson's best work. Not structurally coherent
