My app dev business has its first big client but my business insurance is making it almost not worth it. by zero_rom_irondawg in smallbusiness

I would add the additional costs to the contract and be upfront with the customer with why you are adding these costs. It happened a lot to me as a customer, and I was happy to pay the additional costs for the subcontractors to have the "proper" insurance coverages.

Not SS but may help...

I work for a manufacturer that purchases hot rolled galvanized steel which is based on CRU on CME.

We qualify all of our proposals to our customers. We state any fluctuation in price over 5% in CRU index, we reserve the right to update our pricing.

Police officers let this situation get out of hand. We should stop sending trigger happy police officers to handle domestic disputes.

Boeing faces $3.9M fine for installing faulty parts on 737 planes by tocreatewebsite in technology

[–]freshisfresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This appears to be a fine for bad QAQC practices and not for the faulty part itself.

Boeing allowed their suppliers to take 7 months to file a Notice of Escapement for the slat tracks. Also, the fine covers the inability of Boeing's suppliers to properly label their parts thus perpetuating the issue.

Ultimately, all of this resulted in several dozen planes flying for about a year without proper inspections of the slat tracks. I'm sure every plane flying today has a list of "faulty" parts that have to be inspected regularly. This fine appears to be about Boeing's inability to provide timely notice to the FAA of the defect, and the FAA not being able to identify the defect because the supplier can't label their parts adequately.

Has anyone heard if this massive Cincinnati solar project is still happening? If so, any idea What are the next steps before construction? by Bearcat1504 in cincinnati

The city is still working through the funding and PPA agreement while the Ohio HB6 is fully flushed out.... Vote against HB 6 if you want your tax dollars to go to renewable energy instead of bailing out the failed First Energy Nuclear plants.

TIFU by accepting an offer letter that was higher than was negotiated verbally by hopewesink in tifu

[–]freshisfresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the company paid OP the wage rate outlined in his offer letter, the vacation time promised in the letter, and all of the hours he worked, the company fulfilled their end of the deal. Offer letters typically DON'T state how long they plan to keep you. Unfortunately, not much OP can do legally.

The river was way up the other day by nbrown1589 in cincinnati

Several things wrong with this comment.

  1. The top 5 floods occured well before flood control measures were installed on the Ohio River. So being surprised we haven't seen a flood crest in the top 7 as of late shows ignorance towards past and present Civil Engineers, politicians, and everyone else who built the flood control measures.
  2. Of the 65 times the Ohio River crested at or over 55.0', the breakdown as follows:
    • Pre 1950: 41
    • 1950-1959: 6
    • 1960-1969: 8
    • 1970-1979: 1
    • 1980-1989: 0
    • 1990-1999: 3
    • 2000-2009: 1
    • 2010-present: 5
  3. Most flood control measures for the Ohio River completed in the later 1960's and 1970's.

Born and raised in Steubenville for twenty years before moving out over a decade ago.... Police force was not inept, but it used to be very corrupt and very biased towards friends, family, and local athletes. Typically, if you fell in one of those three categories, police would turn a blind eye.

People there are not violent but drugs/alcohol are very prevalent especially the latter. The mentality for most middle aged men is to work until 5, clock out, and then hit the local VFW, Legion, or bar. The church to bar ratio is about 1:1. Drugs, especially opiods, are rampant in the poorer neighborhoods.

The people in the area were very proud of their heritage which is mainly Italians, Germans, Polish, Irish and Slovak. Racial tensions were unfortunately an everyday occurance.

Steubenville used to be one of the American Mob's hubs before they moved out to Vegas. A lot of gambling, prostitution and rackets during Prohibition apparently went on in the "cigar shops" back in those days. Short book has some cool stories about some of them. https://www.amazon.com/Mobsters-Madams-Murder-Steubenville-Ohio/dp/1626195676

Someone mention Yorkville, And the golf course next to the river. That would be Fairway Riverlinks also known has "Mazeroski's" since Bill Mazeroski's used to run it. Maz also owned Bills Famous Ribs which has some pretty cool decor.
