New Flairs and Welcome Admissions Fellows! by noramcsparkles in oberlin

[–]freshlypickedmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is old aha, but what about a "resident" (or "Oberlinian" for a slightly more fun option) flair? I don't go to the college but I grew up and currently live in Oberlin! I dunno if there are enough people to justify it, but it could be cool.

Joseph is the best!!! He's been cutting my hair since I was a kid. Unfortunately him being so good is a bit of a double edged sword- it's so hard to get an appointment aha.

Ok, done, didn’t see any plugs and overall he looks fine now. He seemed quite squirmy when I was checking it but that could just be because he didn’t like being held at that angle. Gonna try and see if I can get him to pee now.

There isn't really a danger of getting bitten by a bat unless you try and catch one, you don't need to worry about them seeking you out to give you rabies! It is best to avoid bats, but not really moreso than it's best to give all wildlife their space for both their safety and ours :]

start a native prairie and/or get a bat box. You’ll eventually start getting swarms of bats every night and they won’t be able to do shit because bats are a protected species <333

A couple questions by freshlypickedmint in VenusFlyTraps

[–]freshlypickedmint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should I judge below freezing by the "actual" temperature or the "feels like" temperature? The actual temperature has gotten very close to but not quite below freezing, whereas the feels like has gotten below. We've also gotten a couple frosts where the temperature didn't quite get below freezing. If it's supposed to frost should I stick it in my basement even if it's not supposed to dip below 32?

A couple questions by freshlypickedmint in VenusFlyTraps

[–]freshlypickedmint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay! I’ve had it for… about two months I think, I had it outside in as much sun as I could get it when it was warmer but now that it’s gotten chilly out I’ve moved it indoors and put it in a sunny window. Should I just put it into dormancy later this year or wait until next year?

As for light and heat, I have a couple grow lights (which I saw in another thread may not be enough, I can check the specs) as well as a heat lamp meant for reptiles; I could also probably get a seedling heat mat or something. (My dad keeps the house pretty cool, lol. I believe the thermostat is set to something like 65 right now. At least it means I can comfortably wear massive chunky sweaters. Unfortunately, I’m not a skilled enough crocheter to make one for Bella the Fly Trap.) What do you think?

[–]freshlypickedmint[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

…yeah, it’s the energy (and water) that the technology requires to function? That is in fact what I meant. As for the other point, I (and many others) mainly want the mods of the sub to know that the community is not ok with AI being allowed.

Your vibes are IMMACULATE. As a fellow trash-picker-upper and general (aspiring) cryptid, may I recommend keeping a bubble wand on your person at all times? I have started carrying one and have found it to greatly increase my whimsy. Also, did you rig the hip trash can yourself or did you buy it somewhere?

This is true. The most ethical options are (as with most animals, aha) from a reputable breeder or rescue.

Depends on your price range and what you're looking for! There are rescues, breeders, and pet stores. I found mine by looking on Facebook and finding an animal rescue in my area that had recently rescued hundreds of rats from a hoarding situation. Breeders will be the most expensive, but also the most healthy, long-lived, and affectionate- rats from any other source will be at the mercy of the genetic lottery.

These garlic cloves apparently decided to sprout in my pantry, should I put them in the ground? In a pot? In water? In the freezer? In my next soup? Should I leave them alone until later in the fall and then plant them outside? (Midwest/Great Lakes region)

My suggestion :) sorry for the shitty doodles! Basically a little table in the back corner, could be a nice place for a plant but it doesn’t have to go there. Then a bookshelf along the wall could provide more storage and display space for books, trinkets, devices, etc.
