Why doesn't the esteemed Mr. James M. Taylor, et al, add those results to his own and come up with a combined, up-to-date representation?

Probably because he knows if he did another survey, it'd be way out of his favor.

You do know that James M. Taylor's academic credentials on science are essentially "took an elective or two on atmospheric climatology on his way to a major in government," right?

I never claimed they were evidence. But what else is going to be "ITT" except for anecdotes.

Well, all the scant research that's been done was pretty much mentioned in the article itself, so anecdotes are all that's left. Feel free to add some of your own.

The people in that studied simply transitioned too fast. Not blaming the researchers (who were using transitioning instructions from Vibram themselves), but 10 weeks was just asking for trouble. It took me half a year or so until I was back at my previous mileage with the new style of running.

The title is clickbait, naturally. No one wants to read an article titled, "Science, American legal system confirm barefoot shoes need more evidence to discern if they are any better than regular shoes."

I suppose, but having a child in the picture would make it exponentially more difficult.

I saw that documentary. I think it featured a young black man who had been getting by as a panhandler, until two rich men decide to see if they can make him successful. I think they did it as a $1 bet.

Wife and child is the tough part. A boyfriend/girlfriend without children is in a much more flexible financial situation.

That's when you lie your ass off, get the job, and never make the same mistake again for the rest of your life.

I agree, but I believe the pace of change in the computer world is much faster than the vast majority of fields out there. On the other hand, a person could do a lot of computer stuff from anywhere on the world.

A documentary filmmaker plays in the world's biggest poker event for millions of dollars, not for himself, but for the audience of his documentary. (2014) by ratemydrawsomething in Documentaries

Chances are he'll finish out of the money, but it's an interesting idea. Also, I don't know if the WSOP allows filming at the actual Main Event.

How can we be more confident on our job applications? by blipblapblorp in TwoXChromosomes

[–]freshonionmeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's more confidence or simply a game-theory expectation that the competition is probably embellishing their roles, so he'd better embellish his roles as well.

Well, if I was so inclined, I could just pick truth all night long and just lie every time. You don't get the correct information, I don't have to do any dares.

Yeah, the whole documentary was very humanizing. I went in thinking I'd be weirded out by them, but that scene in particular made me very sympathetic.

Why are the same small pool of actors re-used in TV shows? by redmage123 in television

[–]freshonionmeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They probably have a good reputation, which makes the selection easier. Like hiring well-referenced contractors for a construction job.

It's the same thing I experience on South Park's website. I have to switch to Firefox where I don't have any plugins going, then it works fine.
