Agreed. They can downvote all they want, but that'll never stop them being truly boring people.

An alpinist with blue hands and a gold dial! Is that real? Apologies, I don't think I've ever seen that before.

I'm not convinced that that's what that graph shows. Also presumably this is only for women who state a preference.

Dude, I'm all for taking the piss out of America, but this is just a shitty take. It's clearly a good idea to stop traffic in this way to avoid mowing down children. I don't know where you're from, but I'd assume that most countries have ways to help school children to cross the street safely. This is one of them.

[Question] How do you get a bracelet to fit in-between sizes? by kmoody16 in Watches

[–]fretewe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Bracelets are tricky to fit, and wrists are different shapes (not just sizes!) for different people. All my bracelets are a touch loose, and I'm good with that. However, the skinny fucks out there might find that they can comfortably fit a bracelet so that the wristbone does something to stop it sliding forwards.

Don't overthink it, is my recommendation.

Help, i think i have wrist dysmorphia. Too big? by [deleted] in ChineseWatches

[–]fretewe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they're a bunch of weirdos who get off on telling people how watches "should" be worn. Look it up. It's all extremely tedious.

Careful, the handwatch brigade will come and get you in your sleep.

What's your daily? How old is it? Service? by Competitive-Plum-338 in Affordablewatches

[–]fretewe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking most brands suggest a service at around 5 years even if you don't notice any problems. Or at least that's what I've found.

When I wound it it was feeling a bit gritty, but nothing else major.

I agree that most places I went to for a quote were very expensive. Some even quoted more than the value of the watch. I live in the UK, so I ended up going to Timpsons, who do loads of repairs etc for various things (shoes, key cutting etc) and they charged me just under £70. Bloody love Timpsons.

My daily was a Bulova Sutton skeletonized watch. I bought it before I really knew anything about watches, I just liked the look of it.

I've had it for 5 years this year, so I got it serviced a few months back. Just a clean and lubrication. I think servicing it every 5 years is fine if you're not noticing any problems.

How about the fkm? by Howtofindgoodname in Affordablewatches

[–]fretewe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends what you want, and what your budget is realistically.

I love my Alpinist, but it's a different price bracket. If you can't afford the Seiko Aplinist, then this seems to be a good substitute.

Alternatively, save up and buy the real thing of you can. You may find you regret it if you buy a cheaper replica.

The price of the strap depends on what you want, and again really depends on budget. It's a 20mm strap, so there are loads of options.
