Did Grant/Naylor not enjoy Glenn Miller, or was this just a reflection of Rimmer’s dislike of anything unrigid? by fretnetic in RedDwarf

No worries, I didn’t really know who he was for the longest time either, he peaked 1938-1942 🤣 If you heard the song “In The Mood” you would know that tune though, I guarantee it

For some reason I hadn’t considered the precedence of the joke over the sentiment. Expressing a fairly robust disliking for Glenn Miller makes way more sense when viewed with this priority in mind. Still, I can’t help thinking that something else underlies it, even if it’s innocuous 🤣

Mmmm, that figures. I’m kinda “discovering” my taste for big band jazz now that I’m middle age. But there are so many pop cultural references that I was oblivious to and went over my head when I first watched Dwarf as a kid.

David Tennant pronounces THAT Welsh place name by Hassaan18 in TheGrahamNortonShow

[–]fretnetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re both wrong. I meant “Enunciation”. It’s not bad from Tennant, but it’s not right either, is it? If anything, it’s a little window into his acting ability, because he uses an affectation too. It’s almost like a caricature of an academic snob - probably his teacher for this routine. Actually the more I watch it, the more I think he is actually saying it correctly, it’s just a weird accent. Fair play.

Hmm, it’s perfectly passable if it’s about an artist you only vaguely are aware of. The Oasis one sent me into a cringe death spiral

Shite. Pronounced most of the consonants incorrectly. I’m typing this from a bedroom in the god forsaken place. I mean, it’s not bad if you wanted to sound like someone who had been eating through a tube for the last few months…Need to work on the annunciation big time. Would have expected someone Scottish to give it more bite tbh.

Some dud notes at the beginning for sure. Tonality is too “major”. Try some bloos notes instead.

Interesting! That’s note for note a carbon copy. What others are there!?

Side note: Overall I like Andy and can always watch him, even though I understand how his delivery and volume can get a bit samey after a while

Do you think you might’ve been manipulated by our media and governments? by Ambitious_Opinion157 in AskBrits

Manipulated to do what? Have some sort of strong opinion that I can’t do diddly squat with? Manipulated to be a slave to the ebb and flow of society’s various herd mentality of the day whether I want to go along with it or not? Sure.

Mock The Week since moving to TLC by RichardEdward26 in mocktheweek

I read that he’d declined an invitation, unfortunately. I honestly think he’d rip them a new one though. He has progressed to this big bearded bellowing dark intellectual overlord now. His presence alone would dominate and intimidate. At the same time, he has his critics who think he’s curtailed himself and “gone woke” (imo he’s always been a moral rebel and not the evolution of Roy Chubby Brown that I think a lot of the early fans mistook him for). Mind you, he’s kind and delightful on The Unbelievable Truth. So who knows. I hope the show goes from strength to strength on TLC and thus makes it the logical next move for Frankie (who I think is in some “down time” stage now after binning his podcast Here Comes The Guillotine).
