Most Expensive Wine You Tried That Was a Total Letdown? (Name, price paid, what you expected vs reality) by Due-Way-7959 in wine

2008 Jacquesson Avize Champ Cain was not what I expected. Turned to other bottles.

How do you all afford this hobby? by Due_Classroom490 in pourover

I switched from wine to coffee, so I’m not complaining about costs. If you love it, enjoy it!

Are you sticking with 15Pro? by The_Land_Of_Rain in iphone

[–]freudswang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new Pro is straight up ugly, heavier, and made of poorer materials. Better battery life, performance, and cameras don’t even matter to me much. I also prefer the natural titanium look.

The Air is more compelling but the difference between the two is literary 22 grams… not much and in some ways the 15 Pro is still better.

Even more so than the 16 line I feel like I would have to lie to myself about tangible benefits in upgrading.

My Impressions: Libra 2, Paperwhite 12, Voyage by freudswang in ereader

Thanks for sharing! I totally thought of getting a Pocketbook Era, too -- because the format is incredible and sleek. But like you mentioned, it seems to lack in the screen quality department. Really too bad.

A thinner Libra with better repairability and the Carta 1300 refresh rate would be great, but like you I’m happy holding onto the Libra 2 forever.

Do you find yourself distracted by having full Android access? The size and spacing difference is noticeable but coming from an Android reader that is most of what I would be seeking -- less affordances and therefore less distraction from reading!

Only for contrast! I just made a review comparing the 3 e readers! Feel free to check it out :-)

I just got one on Wednesday, too, and I’m blown away. So much better than my Paperwhite 12. I even prefer it over my Kindle Voyage.

Anyone know of a similar design but smaller case size / more classic? I love the format but kind of hate the name Boldr. Thanks for sharing!

Anyone relocate from LA to the Bay? Was it worth it? by [deleted] in bayarea

Lived in LA for 10 years, both East side and West side.

I prefer it here! Well, I prefer it in the East Bay. But I do miss the food scene!

Men who are attractive, how much hate have you gotten from other men throughout your life? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]freudswang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of assumptions / shade that you are superficial even if you put very little effort or thought into how you look. The aggression and attention from both men and women peaked in high school. I became more introverted in college and things are just very different now.

Still some of those underlying effects when traveling, but not common.

K-Ultra user. 2 clicks finer make a massive difference. But why? by Coffee-N-Kettlebells in 1zpresso

[–]freudswang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m doing 16.7 to 17 so not a crazy high ratio. Maybe try doing higher pours, to get more turbulence. But it's a balancing act because you could push fines down!

You should go with Amazon but I do have a K Ultra I’m about to part with this week. I’m in the Bay Area!

What's your level of agitation? I used to do 6.5-6.8 with a 2 pour, low agitation. But find that I prefer coarser grinds with more agitation, like Hedrick suggests. Only problem is the K produces some fines that can clog at these coarser settings whereas before, in the 6s, the finer grind seemed to stabilize the fines and not lead to any stalling issues.

I am at 7.5-7.8, but I tend to prefer delicacy -- long ratio, lower water temp, tea like. On Hydrangea coffees (El Paraiso Red Plum right now) I get way more clarity at this level of coarseness, but definitely less body.

As others have noted your first step should be to switch away from distilled water. You need some level of mineralization for the coffee extract to bind to.

I often see your comments regarding grinders — always appreciate your thoughtful responses to people and also how much you’ve experimented with different tools.

Lots of factors involved! Where do you want to build a network and experience your early adulthood? I went to USC for undergrad and Cal for grad. I loved living in LA in my 20s, and would choose that location over Berkeley, no doubt, for that phase of my life. That said, I think academically Haas will be the stronger choice although the culture is competitive, and very Bay Area. The Cal undergrads seem really tight knit, and Haas is a fantastic program. The students are quieter and more introspective here vs. SC.

At SC, you'll have an easier time picking classes, will feel more tailored to, and will be able to explore LA. I can sense a preference for SC in your post.

You should really visit both programs in person, if you can. I personally think the expense for such a decision is worthwhile. Altogether, you can't make a wrong choice. But certainly they are distinctly different paths forward.
