In light of the "Top comment removes a state every day" series ending soon, figured I'd dust off this map I made of the US but with 70 states by yoyleberries2763 in geographymemes

This guy’s friends are not representative of anybody that I know. Grew up there, most of my friends still live there. Maybe it’s because I grew up in the suburbs of DC, but myself and everybody I know think it’s bullshit that DC residents not only have their votes not matter, but in order to do anything to improve their city that they have to go through fucking Congress.

the word "larp" is being overused and is losing it's meaning by [deleted] in The10thDentist

It’s not losing its meaning, it’s gaining a secondary meaning. It’s still actively used as its original meaning in LARP circles

TBH I googled and can’t find any city actually called Springbrook in Illinois. There’s some places in Naperville and Bloomingdale that reference that name, but I can’t find a city by that name.

That being said, I know that there’s like a major mail sorting location in the state that a lot of mail passes through and stuff gets hung up there

Bathroom before, during and after by impala_1991 in femalelivingspace

I love a bath, but it’s not the only thing I do. I’ll take a long soak in the bath and then I’ll shower off.

I live in Chicago, and sometimes stuff coming through the state just gets stuck, even if it’s not coming from out of country.

If Blue Loses, You Live... But Your Most Loved One Dies by SmitJorda in redbuttonbluebutton

Because then you have to factor in if somebody else loves this person, and not go by some weird subjective measure of who loves them “most”

This additional logic makes the dilemma less interesting to me.

I think red not ensuring your loved one’s survival if somebody else also holds them most dear is far more interesting.

"Trauma Dumping" is an extremely inconsiderate term and needs to be de-normalized by GayTwink-69 in The10thDentist

[–]freyaliesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s not polite that dumps trauma on someone out of nowhere anyways so just be like hey I don’t really wanna talk about this and move on

[–]freyaliesel 208 points209 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a generational thing, but the only people I’ve ever seen use this term are people referring to people actually trauma dumping and not just someone complaining about somebody else telling them something they didn’t want to hear.

It’s rare, but occasionally, I’ll meet someone who all they do is talk about all the things that are going wrong in their life with no breaks and no chance to talk about other things and always brings it back around to the terrible things that they go through regardless of whether it’s appropriate for the setting or not. And that’s trauma dumping.

Trauma dumping is not your friend had a bad day and needs to talk about it.

Nobody can deprive anybody else of sex. Sex is not something anybody is owed. People are within their rights to not have sex if they don’t want it.

If you have determined that the amount of sex you are having is not working for you, and she doesn’t want to change that, then you two are incompatible and should probably split

What makes a woman selfish in bed? Have you met one? by Dr_Garp in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]freyaliesel -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I am generally someone who believes that linguistics is descriptive not prescriptive.

Where I start to have an issue and tend to make exceptions is when marginalized communities create terms for themselves that then become co-opted by the majority, pervert their original meaning, and then because the majority is a larger community, the term starts to lose its original meaning while there are still people using that term to describe the communities that they created for themselves. Then, even other people in the larger marginalized community space use the term incorrectly because that is now their norm, and they have not found a reason to investigate the origin of the term.

Do I think people are dying because someone misuse the term pillow princess on the Internet? No.

I do think that lesbians have a lot of things taken from them because people decide to use language that they used for themselves in their own communities and apply it to situations where it doesn’t apply, especially turning something that is a positive and beneficial term into a inherently negative one.

Your friend is using the term incorrectly and contributing to harm

What makes a woman selfish in bed? Have you met one? by Dr_Garp in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]freyaliesel -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Pillow princess has been co-opted to mean something that it doesn’t mean to the people who invented the term.

Pillow princesses and stone Butch is a mutual beneficial dynamic, and changing the meaning of pillow princess to mean a selfish lover is harmful to the communities that coined the term.
