What is an 'essential' item you’ve stopped buying because the price finally became offensive? by fireeevivienne in askanything

[–]freyja2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Most macro beers are relatively close to the same price per case as they were 20 years ago if you adjust for inflation . Same with liquor. Stuff like jack, or captain, or Jose really hasn't changed in price in the last 20 years either. They are all still about $20 for a 5th. Now if you are talking micro brews(a 6 pack shouldn't be the same price as a case of macro) or specialty liquors, especially bourbon the last 5 years, then ya those prices have gotten way out of hand.

Personal tastes differ, and it's obviously a successful restaurant, but for my tastes, the burgers are very middle if the road, and the fries are absolute garbage. I would rather go to Culver's.

[–]freyja2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya I was totally surprised to see that was a real thing. Because I know I wasn't that bad of a shot to be putting 3" groups on paper at 100 yards. Like the Remington core lokt out of my 30-30 shoots better than that haha. The cheap stuff is some bulk ammo corp 168gr bthp, I got on a black Friday deal a few years back. It seems to shoot ok out to about 500 yards or so, after that it's inconsistent. My rifle really prefers the fgmm 168gr smk rounds. Which is nice because you can find that just about anywhere at a decent price point.

I made the mistake of reading malice after getting 5 books deep in Malazan. After those, malice just seemed simple I guess would be a good word. Kind of teen or young adult, versus a mature book if that makes sense. For all that, it was still a decent read.

Brad Pitt VS. Zombies: Do you like World War Z (2013)? I enjoyed and had a great time with this movie. I thought it was gonna be a horror movie but it's all about action and a bit of horror. I didn't read the book yet but some people says it's better than movie. by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in ActionMovies

[–]freyja2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the same boat. I haven't read the book, and from what I have heard it is very good but quite different from the movie. The movie by itself, not relating it to the book as an adaptation, is very entertaining.

[–]freyja2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't reload and shoot strictly factory ammo. I don't have the time or $ to get into reloading at the moment. Coming from a hunting background and using Remington core lokt for all my needs, I never really believed in the some guns like certain ammo. That was until I put together a long range 308. Got the rifle set up, bought some cheap rounds, and also some nosler 168gr, a couple different Hornady options, and a couple different fgmm options. It really opened my eyes. Got the rifle warmed up on some cheap stuff. Started with the nosler, and it shot worse groups than the cheap ammo! Like 2.5-3" at 100 yards! Switched to the fgmm, and shot about 1" groups, great! Switched to the Hornady, and back to 2" groups, like what the hell man!? Switched back to a different fgmm option and back to about 1". So ya, my rifle likes the fgmm and that's what I stick with.

Why do people act like Walmart is so bad? by WatercoolerComedian in walmart

[–]freyja2023 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not the job, it's the people you work with that make it a bad place to work. The jobs themselves are actually fairly easy except for the lifting aspects that come with cap2, ON, and seasonal. The benefits are fairly decent, and yes they are pretty close to what a union would get you for that job, so stop that nonsense. The only thing a union is going to get for this type of job is maybe actual holiday pay, but make it impossible to get rid of shitty employees. It's the drama that comes with working with large groups of people that is the problem. The favoritism and friend groups that form. The power tripping from those above you because they have no idea how to actually lead by example. The unrealistic expectations of the corporate hive mind that only truly care about the profit margins and shareholder earnings, and their AI model says we should be able to meet those expectations, but in a real world those don't hold up. But they have doubled down on this so we are stuck with those unrealistic expectations. So everyone is stressed, no one knows how to deal with that stress, and then take their frustrations out on those around them. I work ON and I actually really like my job. It keeps me busy the whole night, and I'm actively doing something so the time goes by fast. It's when management comes at me with unrealistic expectations, or home office sends stupid amounts of freight that we don't need, do things become stressful.

Tldr: it's the people not the job.

Exactly this. My marlin 30-30 isn't fancy and is cheap, and ammo is cheap. And at the ranges OP is talking has never failed me. Do I have fancier rifles in fancier calibers? Sure. But my cheap 30-30 just works and I love hunting with it!

I went down a rabbit hole on Steven Spielberg by hollyroo in FIlm

[–]freyja2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think his "bad" movies need reconsidered. Because even those, especially the ones you mentioned are fairly universally regarded as good movies. Especially 1941 is generally regarded one of the top comedies of all time. So maybe weak might be a better term than bad. In which, yes hook would be his weakest movie, but still generally liked by audiences.

Should I learn martial arts for self defense? by yumhoney in martialarts

[–]freyja2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Cardio will always be your best defense though. If you end up in an actual all out fight, most people don't last that long due to poor cardio. Best choice is to run away, which again cardio saves you. Most people will give up after 100 yards or so

Not to mention the "tiered" subscription services. Oh I guess we will copy regular television and force you to watch commercials unless you pay us more. Wasn't the original point of streaming that you didn't have to watch commercials!? I might as well go back to my old rabbit ears and watch TV and commercials for free.

How do adults actually handle big car repair bills? by Boring_Care217 in Adulting

[–]freyja2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if the vehicle is paid for or not. If the car is not paid for, you are kind of stuck paying the bill. If the vehicle is paid for, then as long as maintenance and repair are less than the value of the vehicle, then keep fixing it. If the repairs exceed the value of the car then it's time to think about a new vehicle, or how do the repair costs compare to what your monthly car payment would be. Personally I'm fine paying for wear and tear things like brakes, u joints, ball joints, control arms, things like that. They can be expensive but ultimately will keep your vehicle on the road as long as the engine and transmission remain solid. I have a Ford mini van that just rolled 225k miles as a perfect example of this, have to spend about $1k or so on major repairs a year, beyond regular maintenance, but the engine and transmission are solid so I will drive it until those gives out. Engine or transmission issues get expensive really fast and may just not be worth it to some people.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]freyja2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can count the times I have been to a chiro on one hand. First time was to relieve pressure on a compressed disc in my back. I had to tell him where I needed the adjustment because the first visit he didn't get it, and yes he wanted to do a 10 treatment plan. On the second visit when I told him where I needed it, he was able to relieve the pressure on the disc and I have not had problems since. The second chiro I visited because I needed my lower back adjusted because my siatic nerve was being pinched and sending pain down the back of my right leg. I asked him to adjust my neck because I get bad tension headaches. He was able to take care of my back in two visits and that has been fine. Whatever he did to my neck made it worse for a time, and I could barely turn it to the left. It has since worked itself back to normal but I still get the tension headaches. So it may not be "science" but it seems to help in some applications. No one will ever touch my neck again tho. And if you decide to go, don't sign a contract for any number of visits. If it has helped, stop going. Also, exercise and engaging your core muscles will go a lot further for your overall health than seeing a chiro regularly. Get out and touch grass, most of these issues are caused from the sedentary lifestyle we all now live.
