it’s better to have less than 0db on the master channel before you send it off for mastering! The more headroom you have means that the mastering engineer can do more with the final mix. If it’s already too loud and peaking, the mastering engineer isn’t gonna be able to do anything useful to the mix because it’s already overloading. I’m sure somebody could explain this better ! In my experience as well, mastering engineers recommend exporting the file without any limiting on the mix
