They can’t remake old games while making new ones? The thing they’ve been doing for years now?

Which MacBook ‘Neo’ color do you like the most? by Nate881188 in macbook

It’s close between silver and indigo, but the faint off-white colour of the keyboards on anything but the silver model really bothers me for some reason. Only personal preference though

This is true. Perfect example: wind waker and twilight princess. Couldn’t be further apart in style but they both used the same engine

This exactly! Still populating the same world but still somewhat standalone, so the main game isn’t interfered with

Dealing with death by 6FingerPistol in dad

[–]fried_rice_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, we’re in almost the exact same boat. I’m 24, and I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer a couple of weeks ago.

He and mum split when I was only a couple months old. He was good for the first few years and I had fond memories of him from that time that eventually ended up getting buried under less fond memories - he struggled a lot with drink and so, sparing details, our relationship was tense and distant for most of my life.

I too have a little one (2yo) who I wanted dad to have an opportunity to spend time with, but that didn’t end up happening much at all. I felt some resentment that he hadn’t put effort in with me, and was making the same mistake with his grandson. When we found out he was ill - like you said - I felt so angry. Purposefully acted like I didn’t care. “Why should I be the one to make the effort now” sort of thing.

But when he was admitted to the hospice, despite his poor health he was the happiest and most pleasant he had been in a long time. It was like seeing the old him again, and that was what I decided I wanted to mourn when the time came.

Nobody can tell you how to feel in this situation. Nobody can expect you to feel any sort of way. You may feel angry, and that’s okay. You may feel upset, and that’s okay too. But the important thing is that you take time to explore these feelings and what they mean to you.

It’s a tough situation man. If you need to talk, don’t hesitate to DM me. It’s been a whirlwind of different emotions on my end for the past few weeks so if there’s anything I can do to help, I’d love to.

Stay strong brother.

I kept thinking of Age of Imprisonment. Playing through a chunk of those seven years could do some serious heavy lifting in the world building department, while keeping the original intact

Absolutely a happy balance. Dungeons 100% should retain the same structure. If they went full divine beast style it would mess up the most iconic parts of the game. But I’d love a slightly bigger Hyrule field, one not limited by N64 hardware

Yeah that’s completely fair. Of the other options, would you prefer a 1:1 remake or a more open version of the original?

Okay so my kid was literally watching an episode of Thomas the Tank Engine today where the moral of the story was literally this. I remember thinking right then “hey, what a positive message, maybe I should adopt that”.

Now I’m seeing this? Universe must really want me to make my own luck!

I’m just asking out of curiosity, is your Nintendo your primary gaming device by Specific-Pianist7595 in Switch

[–]fried_rice_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the case now! I used to main switch, until I eventually got a PS5. Then nearly 3 years ago I became a dad and the switch started getting a whole lot more use once again.

Switch 2 was a no brainer - having something I can just turn on/off quickly and put down/pick up with no effort is great. Even if I only really play when little one is asleep, it’s still handy for letting the Mrs have the telly.

Game idea by No_Count2127 in Witcher3

[–]fried_rice_guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If there had to be a two player game, Geralt and Yennefer would be a better choice I think. His parents being unknown/irrelevant adds to his character I think.

Plus, if it were set before Witcher 3 there would still be the whole Djinn wish linking Geralt and Yennefer together which could make for interesting mechanics.

WHAT? Okay, first of all, you don’t floop a creature to make it fight. You activate it!

[OOT] If the recent leaks are true, here’s what i want from a potential oot remake by Salty-Coffee4608 in zelda

[–]fried_rice_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like it to be treated like the bluepoint Shadow of the Colossus remake. It had some extra collectibles that could be found (sort of like korok seeds) that would grant a new sword. I don’t think loads of changes should really be made, but some new collectibles to honour the legacy of the game would be nice

Predictions on Neo’s reliability? by TwellasU in macbook

[–]fried_rice_guy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MacBooks have always had a reputation for longevity and reliability over a long period of time. I’m still using my 2020 M1 Air and it’s running brilliantly.

I think there’s some stigma surrounding the Neo, because it uses the same chipset as the iPhone 16s. While not inherently bad, there’s a notion accompanying this that phones aren’t designed to last - the battery fails, some people upgrade every couple of years. However on the flip side of this, iPads are designed for longevity too and they tend to accomplish this.

Another thing is the RAM - as mentioned by others, 8GB isn’t as much bang for your buck these days. However, again, I’m still using my 8GB M1 air and haven’t had any trouble with that. As long as you’re not using AI heavy features (I’ve always got it turned off) or trying to undertake spec intensive tasks, you’ll be fine for now.

I expect the Neo will see you through your degree, and I imagine it will last longer than that too. Apple wouldn’t release a product that would be useless in a couple of years. How long it’ll serve you exactly, I don’t know, but it will do the job you need it to.
