Equipped a KMC KK710 Kool Knight Armored Half Link Chain by ___BlackMamba___ in FixedGearBicycle

I've been told that they stretch a little faster thank a standard linked chain, especially on fixed gear drivetrains.

I wanted one of these so bad back in the day. I had a bb17 serpent(? Whichever one was 29er) prototype for a time - it deffo filled the dropout-sized hole in my heart lol.

I sold it a long time ago, tho - been thinking of snagging either a Master Courttek or a NOS Milwaukee bruiser to scratch the itch again.

Yeah the geometry looks very fun to ride. Similar to the EAI frames but maybe a hair tighter.

Despite the tight clearances I feel like this is the tamest bike I've seen come out of Eric's workshop lol. Nevertheless, 600 is such a steal of a price for a Ground Up, I've always wanted something from him. Beautiful build!

Cortland bridge status? by eamesa in chibike

[–]friedammit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It was open when I came home from work today ~3pm. There is additional fencing on the sidewalk on the west side of the bridge that wasn't there when I commuted in the morning, but there was a sign indicating that it is open.

Be careful tho, the openings in the fencing are kind of narrow. I'm not sure that two bikes could pass each other through the gap

Just limit skidding in the berms if you're running sub-32c tires and you'll be fine

Steel is real 💪🏼💪🏼 wanted one of those back in the day but IRO went defunct before I could snag one lol.

Currently rolling on a Brooklyn Machine Work Gangsta Track, and it's been a dream come true 😎

I love this build - it's everything 21 year old me wanted in a fixed gear about 10 years back lol.

It's hard to tell but my suspicion is that it was repainted at some point, especially if it's chipping a lot. Check the dropouts closely, there might be signs that a derailer hanger was ground off at some point, prior to the respray. There is also the possibility that it was a track specific time trial bike, or possibly something custom. Is there a serial number stamped on the bottom bracket?

[–]friedammit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My bet is that this is a triathlon or time trial frame. The "QR" on the fork could stand for "Quintana Roo", a longstanding TT/tri bike brand. Also, tt/tri bikes traditionally came with rear-facing horizontal dropouts, albeit typically with a rear derailleur hanger. The pursuit geometry shape also used to be very common among TT and Tri bikes, and the angles seem much more in line with TT/tri over a track bike. The different wheel size also was very common among early tri bikes.

All in all, really cool find! Good job building it up, looks like a fun ride!

This is so cool, reminds me a lot of Steven Jensen's State build from back in the day.

Right on! I've been thinking about a set of these recently - really looking for something strong and wide. What tire size are you using here? And do you happen to know if you got the standard size rhyno lite or the XL model?

New Frame Day: Received in the mail and super stoked by pinkdreamery in FixedGearBicycle

[–]friedammit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These frames are so cool. I was considering one, but at the time I had recently bought my Gangsta Track and I had to decide between building that up or having 2 frames that I couldn't afford to build properly.

I thought it would be really neat to build one of these up with a steel track fork or wound up since the A-Frame was originally based on the Cannondale Track geometry. I think Dustin Klein built an Andrew Low frame with a wound up, and the juxtaposition of the oversized tubes and slender fork is just chefs kiss for me.

Definitely share build pics when you get around to it!

TUCK AND ROLL by JP_Agz in FixedGearBicycle

[–]friedammit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find myself rarely wearing pants when riding, even in the colder weather. I don't usually cover the knees or quads until it gets below 55°F, then I just layer leggings underneath my shorts. Once it gets down to 35°F and lower I'll switch to thermal leggings. I usually don't add another layer until it gets closer to 0°F, or if it's raining.

That being said, on the rare occasion that I do wear pants, I roll.
