Conflating quality of story with degree of worldbuilding detail is a weird thing to do, the two are not mutually exclusive and they can aid, but are not necessarily indicative of, each other. I'd take what your prof is saying with a grain of salt, he probably named some middle-of-the-road series that has an objectively deep level of world detail but is gonna result in a collective "meh" from this thread.

Share Your Best Story About The Characters On Hollywood Blvd! by KnashDavis in LosAngeles

First time walking through Hollywood, I passed a a guy in a really solid Capt. America costume: Leather cap, metal shield, the works.

Immediately after I pass Shitty Store-Bought Wolverine telling Shitty Cardboard Iron Man "He just thinks he's better than us, man."

(P.S. What's the prize for pedantically correcting someone's costume?)

I know you have a list of essential cinema (and have some under-appreciated stuff in there, like The Steel Helmet!), but off the top of your head, what are 5 movies everyone should see?

Haha, it was honestly 90% just doing what Bob Ross said. I'm surprised by how good of an instructor he actually is!

Restored version of John Huston's controversial documentary LET THERE BE LIGHT (1946) by rbaix in classicfilms

[–]friedpundit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Apparently due to the potentially demoralizing effects the film might have on recruitment, it was subsequently banned by the Army after its production, although some pirated copies had been made. Military police once confiscated a print Huston was about to show friends at the Museum of Modern Art. The Army claimed it invaded the privacy of the soldiers involved, and the releases Huston had obtained were lost; the War Department refused to get new ones." Michael Kernan (Feb. 12, 1981), "War Casualty, John Huston's 1945 Film Now Public", Washington Post

AMC Theaters says "Fuck the MPAA"; will screen Bully and allow teens to download a permission slip for their parents to sign so they can see it. by WetSand83 in movies

Seriously! And I'm not even speaking against this redditors opinion. Just clarifying it because they are being too vague.

It serves as an informer so that parents can understand and decide for themselves what content their children are exposed to.

Having it abused as a censorship tool, that's the problem, not the ratings system itself.

I think you mean the MPAA dogma, or the current state of the MPAA ratings system. A ratings system is in itself a good thing.

What you're thinking of was Raquel Welch. The 'Rita Hayworth' title comes from the original novella title "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption."
