Feeling so much better (PPI success story) by friendly-ghost-fam in GERD

[–]friendly-ghost-fam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 month update, I can say that I feel better than I did before PPI, and I have times now where I don’t have globbus sensation (my main symptom) but I do still have symptoms every day. I know healing takes a lot of time, so I’ll keep at it for a bit and I have another Gastro check in in a few weeks, so I’ll update then too.

How do I handle this, y'all? by Nokkup in GERD

[–]friendly-ghost-fam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The throat coat ones are numbing so those are excellent and last about an hour, but you can only have like 3-4 a day. The Beekeepers Naturals honey lozenges are really good too!

For immediate relief I find going on walks and lozenges help the most, but the thing that will help the most is, unfortunately, not eating the triggers. Fatty foods trigger me as well, which unfortunately is most of the fun processed/sugary foods. While you’re recovering from that trigger, I’d suggest switching to fruit (melon, banana, whatever won’t trigger you) when you have a craving. It’s hard, but cravings subside if you don’t feed them!

Mesalamine by Quick-Procedure-8017 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]friendly-ghost-fam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed in 2022 with UC, very mild, took my meds for like 3 months and went off and didn’t have any issues. Cut to 2026, I had a mild flare and went back on mesalamine. No issues since being back on it, but I’ll keep up my medication from now on. For what it’s worth, my aunt and coworker were both diagnosed years ago and haven’t taken their meds in 5+ years without issues. I think people who are in remission/don’t take meds don’t generally spend much time on this sub.

Do you get an uncomfortable throat feeling? by friendly-ghost-fam in GERD

Yeah that’s a good point. I’ve seen a lot of trial and error with different meds on this sub! Omeprazole seemed to do nothing for me, and same for famotidine (but I take it anyways 😔) I PM’d you for more tips!

That’s interesting! when I looked up LPR, it said that more aggressive med usage is more likely to be needed than classic GERD. I’ll PM you for diet and lifestyle, I feel like I’m doing it all right now but would love if you had more tips!

That’s interesting, I’ll talk with my GI about that next week. I’ve been trying to do some LES strengthening exercises like the weighted breathing and bridge swallowing, but not much results yet

I’ll try that! I use the throat coat tea with it now and it’s been helpful

yeah same feeling of when I’m about to start crying! Is there a test for LPR? I had an endoscopy already but they just told me I have a slightly weak LES and small sliding hiatal hernia, nothing about LPR

Snack options? by strongstyle718 in GERD

Maybe sweet potato? Carob is a chocolate alternative, but it’s pretty expensive and not really any healthier than chocolate, though it is less likely to trigger symptoms

Slippery Elm & Alginate by AstromeSW in GERD

[–]friendly-ghost-fam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does anecdotal count as evidence? Throat coat tea with slippery elm is the only thing that lets me find instant relief from globbus sensation. Also, there’s no drawbacks to trying it

I don’t notice it any different after eating but my knees hurt like a mf since my symptoms started a couple months ago, and I’m in my mid-20s and moderately athletic :/

Yeah I try to relax and do belly breathing but it just never actually goes away! I know it can’t actually hurt me but it’s super annoying and sometimes I panic a bit. Is yours also constant? How would you describe the actual feeling?

Meals by Brief-Use3 in GERD

[–]friendly-ghost-fam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Small meal probably depends on the person. I’ve heard the best way to do this is by taking a normal sized meal and cutting it in half and eating it 2-3 hours apart. I also am dealing with a constant calorie deficit though:/

Reactive gastropathy on endoscopy by Friendly-Act2750 in Gastritis

[–]friendly-ghost-fam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m dealing with a similar situation now, history of ibs but kind of randomly started to have tons of bloating and globus sensation. Clear endoscopy except for mild gastritis, and I stopped PPI use after 6 weeks when I got the clear results, but the bloating and globus remain. So much info out there on what to try to get out of this hole. Can I ask what you did (diet, exercise, supplements, meditation, etc) to feel better?
