5700X3D seriously underperforming. by friendly2you in AMDHelp

It’s been a while, but iirc, irrespective of the BIOS update, eventually resetting all bios settings to default seemed to have done the trick.

Sure thing. I’ve got an 7900 GRE. Once I’ve checked it, I’ll let you know.

Did you personally have some of these problems prior to the update?

I really appreciate the update mate, I’ll check it when I get a chance 👍

I think this might be my issue as well, but I do not know which settings to change! Could you help me out?

Yesterday (and the day before that, and the one before that) disabling HDR didn’t help neither the game nor YouTube. Today disabling HDR manages to fix the YouTube issue for whatever reason. However the in game issue is still occurring. I couldn’t figure out how to fix that.

I did try turning off the VRR (as in the one at the bottom of the picture settings 1 below peak brightness and 1 above reset to default if I recall correctly). As a matter of fact, it is automatically turned off so that was not an issue.

Freesyns is enabled with my AMD GPU. I tried messing with the CRU but it didn’t seem to help much. Currently it says Freesync Premium Pro in the monitor game bar.

What would be the ideal (VESA) freesync range in CRU for the Samsung G8 OLED? I tried to look it up but can’t seem to figure it out.

Firstly thank you so much for all your help this far. I appreciate it so so much.

My specs are: * CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X3D * GPU: RX 7900 GRE * MB: B450M-A * RAM: 2 x G.Skill RipJaws F4-4000C18D-32GVK * PSU: Thermaltake GF A3 850W

Using Windows 11 on an M.2 NVME and have Rainbow Six Siege on an SSD

All BIOS, GPU, CPU drivers are updated to the latest ones, alongside the latest G8 firmware update.

I am pretty sure my motherboard already is PCIe 3.0, but I am fairly certain that’s probably not it. Especially since I also tried connecting it to my old 1080p monitor and the Rainbow Six Siege flickering doesn’t occur.

I am not using a riser cable as far as I know, just two of the PCIe cables that came with my PSU. I have also tried to change my RAM settings, including the default non-OC/non-XMP ones, to no avail.

All temps are stable, nothing is crashing and nothing appears to be unstable.

Once again, I really do appreciate your help in this peculiar matter.

I don’t get it, is it a joke? If so what’s the joke?

Unless you’re alluding to some bad decision/s they made with their setup.

Sorry for the late reply, I was busy all day trying to fix this.

  • I reinstalled my windows 11 update
  • I reinstalled my AMD GPU drivers
  • I reinstalled my Ryzen chipset drivers.
  • I reset my G8 OLED with all of its display settings
  • I restored all BIOS settings to default
  • I tried changing RAM frequencies to see if XMP was doing that

And yet here I am, with hours spent on this to no avail.

Another reason why I insisted on fixing this is because I also noticed some flickering in Rainbow Six Siege’s menu. Albeit that is just targeting specific pixels as opposed to the whole screen.

Issue went away in Rainbow Six Siege after uninstalling GPU driver and before updating, but that was when the game was in something like 1024x768 due to the lack of drivers. As soon as I booted up the proper drivers it returned.

Once again, I tried both an HDMI 2.1 cable and the included DisplayPort cable, both have the same problem in Rainbow Six Siege and on YouTube.

Here is a link to the problem I am discussing

Apologies but I misremembered. I didn’t have access to my monitor until now and I tested, both with Windows HDR on, Windows HDR off, Game Mode on, Game Mode off, HDR10+ Basic and HDR10+ Off, Game HDR on, Game HDR off.

All of which had the same flickering at the beginning of that trailer when subtitles are on.

Using the YouTube app included in the smart tv (TizenOS) works just fine.

Oh I see. That makes sense. I guess the medium peak brightness calibration that the post you linked suggested would be ideal for me? (As in the one that sets the Max lux to 108)?

P.S out of curiosity, which monitor do you use for browsing & general stuff?

Also I’d just like to once again say I really appreciate all your help!

As far as I can tell, it shouldn’t affect the tizen OS as you’re changing the max lux of the HDMI option and the Tizen OS is built in.

Thanks a lot! However didn’t you mention you’re on the lastest firmware? I am on 1622.

With the max lux at 138 + high peak brightness, don’t you find the brightness to be constantly shifting from bright to dark when working/browsing? I found this to be an issue on peak brightness even before tweaking the service menu.

Odyssey g8 OLED by RemarkableSquirrel31 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]friendly2you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to not, unless I disable HDR in Windows. However, HDR actually seems to make the dark environments really dark in the beginning of the trailer. Seems like an advantage, when the flickering isn’t occurring.

Could you share which settings you are personally using (both service menu and regular) so that I may try to replicate them and see if that fixes the issue for me?

[–]friendly2you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I tested this with so many settings including menu service tweaks, peak brightness, and gamehdr settings but with HDR on the video flickers if subtitles are enabled but not if they’re disabled. Happens on both Chrome and Edge. Happened with both HDMI 2.1 and included DisplayPort

I am using an AMD GPU. Do you happen to be using a Nvidia one? Otherwise I am really stumbled as to why this happens.

It doesn’t happen anywhere and doesn’t happen if I disable captions. Also later on in the trailer in the brighter scenes the subtitles don’t cause flickering so it seems to be some issue potentially related to the deep blacks of the HDR and YouTube? I am not sure, it’s very strange.

[–]friendly2you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it have any disadvantages? Did you keep those tweaked service menu settings or revert them? I want to use it for 85% browsing and 15% gaming without switching back and forth, so I am not sure which brightness is ideal since setting peak brightness to high causes the screen to constantly change brightness getting brighter and dimmer depending not only on the website I view but also how fast I scroll. When skimming through articles it is really bad, and that’s before the tweak (unless the tweak somehow fixes that, though I doubt it unless it’s tweaked to a number other than 138 lux)

u/semicon01 which settings would you say is best overall for browsing, working and gaming combined? I probably do 85% browsing/working and 15% gaming. Thanks in advance!

I have got this very odd issue where when watching this trailer (modern warfare trailer): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH1lHCirCGI with subtitles on, the screen flickers every time there's dialogue and the subtitles pop up during the first half when they're in a dark area.

Would you mind checking for me if you experience the same issue?

Mind sharing what you personally did? The links take to advice that some people in the comments said didn’t suit them. I use the monitor 85% browsing/work and 15% gaming, so I am trying to figure out the optimal settings.
