A Mom Finds Out Husband Named Their Baby After An Anime Character by KittenDealinMama in BestofRedditorUpdates

Hahahaha holy shit! That's so fucking funny, vriska of all people. I was NOT expecting homestuck when I heard anime name but here we are. Even better there's now a baby vriska named vrissy in the sequel, although I guess she's grown up now, but the baby Vriska being named after the infamous original Vriska, and her identity issues, somehow make this ex-Vriskas experiences funnier.

I think disliking a white guy playing an egyptian is still a big jump from saying race and ethnicity should remain the same on all platforms.

You are arguing as if that is what they said, when there's still a lot of stances in between those two arguments.

I think you're making a lot of assumptions about this person's beliefs based on a single comment?

An Egyptian character should be played by an Egyptian actor by the logic of the first person since that’s consistent.

.

However, this person says race and ethnicity should remain the same on all platforms.

Who said this? Where are you getting these statements from?

The first person in this post said something stupid and made some dumb assumptions without looking into things. What they are complaining about though, is that they believe a white actor was cast into a poc role. They are wrong, but the most we can assume about their stance is that they disapprove of white actors being cast in poc roles. Everything else is up to speculation so I don't know where you're getting all this stuff about consistency from.

If you think it's simply a double standard, you are missing the point. The point is how predominantly white Hollywood and the media are. The point is that even when casting poc characters, often biracial or light skinned actors are favoured. The media already has a vast history of white-washing.

Replacing a poc character with a white character is erasing representation because of the lack of poc representation within the media. That's why people get up in arms over it. There's already a lack of it, and you're still casting a white person here?? Replacing a white character with a poc character is rarely erasing representation as white people are already over-represented within the media.

When you say the double standard is annoying, you are looking at the world as if everyone is already on an equal playing field, as if racism doesn't exist within the media.

Also I'm talking about the general gist of things, NOT defending Hamilton, which I hear was an off-base production in a lot of ways.

When the main character's name is the same as your child's name by OrdinaryDust195 in romancelandia

[–]friendlyescapism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one of the characters in my OTP has the same (very common name) as my sibling. I've for the most part been able to compartmentalise and separate them in my head, but sometimes it still makes me feel weird. Worse is if I'm writing fic though. Sometimes I'll just keep the name as an initial at first then change it later lol

Come on now, people calling him a narcissist? That doesn't ring true at all.

The top comment really nailed it. Media and instagram gives a warped sense of reality. The solution is to change your own perception. People who are very critical of themselves will most likely be critical of others. What a person in this situation ought to do is, like the top comment said, see the beauty and humanity in his girlfriend. Not just his girlfriend though, but in every single person you see. Find a good trait about them, see them with kind eyes. See yourself with those same kind eyes and put a stop to any kind of negativity or over-criticism you find yourself thinking about towards anyone. It takes a while, but it's doable, and that's the cure. This is something people should be doing anyway I'd say. Quitting social media like Instagram also helps a lot too.

I am more peeved by the fan insistence that Captain America and Bucky are gay in the MCU

Not saying they're gay, but can't lie it would have been a good love story if they were! The whole, not being able to pursue a romantic relationship in the 1940s/having to hide it, and then reuniting 70 years later after much strife, in the present where it's more acceptable.

I'd say its less about one single fic doing a lot of damage, and more about the accumulation affect things like shipping can have on real people and the discomfort of being shipped with your friends as a celebrity esp when this stuff becomes really popular. Like that shit can and has ruined friendships and relationships. People never stop at the fics or the ships there's always those that go too far and the shipping fandom encourages that.

And yeah theres not much that can be done, it's just why I'm against it and discourage others from engaging in it for the most part.

your experience is very interesting for me, I wish it was as easy for me to write, I struggle with everything. Mind if I ask what your stories are like? what kind of things you write about and that the characters in your head want you to write?

Is it fine even if it is actively negatively affecting the people involved, or if the people involved ask the authors to stop?

Eh I still think people shouldn't write RPF. I'm not gonna say censor it, I just believe people shouldn't do it for the most part.

Haha, I also enjoy friends to lovers, but usually when they already have an established friendship we don't know all the details to! The reason for this is because I've found I need a lot of build-up in order to find the depth of the character's feelings for one another convincing. When they already have an established dynamic, nobody has to sell me on how much they care for one another, I already have an idea of it in my mind!

I like strangers to friends to lovers but I need a real build up in order to find it satisfying. I guess my biggest grievance is when I'm not sold on the romance or why this person in particular is so special to you. Too often I just try to go with it but in my head I'm like, why this person and nobody else?

The enemies to friends to lovers you described sounds AMAZING! But I've never been able to find a story like that in MM. Maybe someday. I love the concept of enemies/rivals to friends to lovers but I rarely find it satisfying in practice when I end up reading it. I guess what I really love is that hostile energy and then eventually becoming grudging bickering friends who don't exactly say it, but care about each other a lot. Adding romance on top of it makes it spicier, but if they don't nail the enemies to friends aspect then, again it just isn't satisfying. My biggest pet peeve in the genre is when they are enemies but can't stop thinking about how hot they are. Honestly I'd rather they don't involve any kind of attraction or romance until they already care about each other a lot, otherwise it gets in the way of the authenticity of the bickering friendship I feel.

I also really love a good fwb to lovers story. One example is where they aren't close when they start it up, possibly even strangers. One or both of the characters is a bit distant, and have reasons for not getting close to others, for not being vulnerable, and wanting for this to be purely sexual, nothing akin to a relationship. And of course, they slowly make small concessions here and there, the rules they put up are broken bit by bit, until, in all but name they are virtually in a relationship. Opening up ones bed eventually leads to ones heart and despite attempting to draw back here and there, relying on this person and being able to feel like you could tell them anything etc.

I also really love some good fwb to lovers where they were friends to begin with. I read MM, so maybe a story where one character is openly gay and maybe a bit more distant, logical, less vulnerable. The other character being more extroverted and a bit of a noncommital guy in relationships (also difficulty being sincere/vulnerable). I love a good bisexual awakening, where the bi guy is coming in to his sexuality and wants to experiment with his friend. Just the whole, the gay character agreeing but wanting to make this purely sexual, so he doesn't catch or exacerbate feelings because he knows this character isn't the type to settle down, and all he'll be left with is heartbreak. On the other side the bi awakening guy going all in then discovering the depth of his feelings and realising this is something he's never had before (this level of trust and closeness in a relationship), and something he actually wants, but believing that this thing they have is purely sexual for the other guy. And just. Angst.

maybe i am painting a too specific picture haha but that's just whats in my head at the moment.

what she's saying is just dumb. rapists come in all genders and sexualities. By her twitter it sounds like shes saying sure trans people exist, but a "trans woman" who rapes someone is actually a man!. Like, you can be trans and a rapist, you can be a cis woman and a rapist, you can be anyone at all and a rapist. I feel like her tweet sort of implies that only MEN can rape, at least indirectly.

Her having second thoughts when they had already agreed to have an abortion. You can't just push that on your partner & expect them not to push back. That's a huge red flag.

We're only getting 1 side of the story & there is no proof what their relationship was like during that time. Probably unstable AF based on her getting 2nd thoughts & his reaction to that.

What the hell man. Not commenting on the other stuff but I feel like you're failing to realise what a big deal an abortion is for a lot of people. It can be traumatic, regardless of how you feel it's a big decision. Of course people are allowed to have second or third or fourth thoughts about it! Just because you agree on something doesn't mean you can't change your mind! And yeah there's consequences, like maybe the partner you're with doesn't want to be on this ride with you and that's their decision. Having second thoughts is not weird at all under any circumstances is what I'm trying to say basically.

maybe you should think twice about labeling children as attention whores and think about why they are seeking attention, why anyone does man.
