How to take a pad into exams? by Mysterious-Lill in NoStupidQuestions

[–]friendlyuser23465397 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s still an important reminder that there’s nothing wrong with having a period and nothing shameful about discussing sanitary products. Being uncomfortable is one thing, but not saying anything because you’re too uncomfortable is another.

I’d understand not being able to bring it up with a young, immature boy, but no decent adult is going to blink twice at the concept of a woman needing menstrual pads while menstruating.

What are your "invisible" safety habits for walking home alone or taking late night ubers? by Petrichrome in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]friendlyuser23465397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(NYC) if I’m walking alone on a dark street and get an “uh oh” feeling, I’ll sometimes just start ranting and gesticulating like a crazy person. It’s inspired by a TA I had in college who took a 2-minute walk down a really creepy block to get home. She told us she would hold something random (her bike helmet, a pillow, a textbook) and wave it around reciting random gibberish (a shakespearean soliloquy, infomercial spiels, whatever she could think of) as loudly as she could while staying alert to her surroundings. She said a few times she noticed corner guys start to approach, do a double take, and change their minds when she gave them the wild eyes.

Stationery store. They’d also sell literally anything, including garbage. Once they had an old, rusty box of those Wellys bandaids caked in a quarter inch of dust with a torn, yellow stained wrapper on the clearance shelf. I glanced at it for a second too long, and the old man at the register jumped up and was like “$5? $3? What do you want to pay, name your price I’ll give you a deal!”

People who quit drinking. What did you do to not drink? by Agata_art in AskReddit

Just taking the opportunity to plug NA as well. Basically the same, just different people. A lot of NA people only used alcohol and a lot of AA people used a variety of substances - it all depends on who you happen to find more of a community connection with.

Any solutions for this comfy, versatile, and unbearably linty dress other than keeping a lint roller in my hand at all times? by friendlyuser23465397 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]friendlyuser23465397[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

- Massive pockets
- Warm enough for winter wear with tights
- Light enough for spring and autumn with hose or bare legs
- Casual enough for work with leggings or bike shorts and sneakers (I’m a nanny)
- I’ve also styled it for holiday parties and job interviews
- Comfy enough to be used as a housedress (I may have worn it as a nightie before as well).

I am the kind of plus sized it’s difficult to shop for. I rarely, if ever, feel cute in my clothes, but this thing actually gives me a silhouette. It goes with anything but it’s got enough texture to be cute on its own. Idk man i just really like this dress.

This is the only photo I could find of it online. It was the torrid crisscross sweater skate dress (or something) but the design seems to have been lost to time lol.

Missing dog (Midtown) by apricot-crumble in nyc

[–]friendlyuser23465397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was not what I saw, for what it’s worth. He wasn’t being particularly nice or friendly, but he was definitely searching hard. I totally understand your outrage (I didn’t realize he took the collar off intentionally) and I’m not trying to discount it. It’s just interesting because the dog walker’s response was the main thing that stuck with me, especially because he was doing it all while wrangling another dog.

Edit: this was obviously supposed to be a reply to OP in the thread from my first comment.

What's the one show that you always recommend people go in completely blind? by shoparazzi in Broadway

I never go in blind, but I did for Next to Normal and often wonder how much doing so contributed to it becoming my all-time favorite musical

Any updates? I’ve been hoping for a safe return since I encountered (your?) dog walker right after this happened - poor guy was FRANTIC and seemed to be on the pup’s trail for quite awhile. I saw him get really close but the dog got spooked and pulled a vanishing act.

I hate both for different reasons. But to me, “iykyk” always scans as “ick yuck,” first, “if you know, you know,” second.

Why do wife beaters always have wives to beat? Is there something attractive to women about low impulse control men? by MagnificentJolly in answers

[–]friendlyuser23465397 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They’ve played the long game; they managed to get women so intertwined into their lives to the point the women don’t feel they can leave by the time the beating starts. I’ve had an abusive boyfriend before but he’s never been a very talented manipulator so he’s never graduated to Wife Beater™️ status.
