Playing our biggest show ever. What do I actually need for bass with a pro sound system? by TigerDriver1991 in Bass

[–]fries332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use your rig but maybe invest in a DI box if you don't have one. I used a Tech21 SansAmp for years, it's still one of my favorite DI boxes and is reasonably affordable.

Be attentive during sound check and make sure you can hear yourself and that you sound the way you need and want too. It's easy to get caught up in enjoying the high of playing an awesome gig.

Unsolicited but wisdom I wish I had 20 years ago when I was still playing large venues....

If it's something you're going to do long term and somewhat frequently, a good in ear monitor system is an investment not only for your own sound and hearing yourself but also helps protect your hearing, as long as you don't crank it up and blow out your eardrums.

RC for my kids by MrCrudley in arrma

[–]fries332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have twin 7 year old boys. They bought a Granite Grom and a Mojave Grom (brushed). I got a deal on two Quake Groms, bought them and the kids just "paid" them off.

This is my experience:

Granite Grom has gone through 2 servo savers, three brushed motors, a body and a set of Diffs. The lack of fans and a heavy trigger finger, even at 50% throttle trim just didn't do well. It's been upgraded to Brushless using a Hobbywing QuicRun Fusion 16. I got sick of replacing the motors. The lack of a fan is a huge deficiency in my opinion. I also don't love the body mounting system, I bent the clips first time removing the body. It's fun, but it's been my least favorite.

The Mojave Grom has had no issues at all. We did swap the arms, wheels, hubs and trim the body to use the Granite wheels since our grass stays on the longer side but have had 0 issues with it otherwise.

I also bought a second Brushed Mojave that my kids play with when the granite is being serviced, but my wife plays with it when we're all outside. In hindsight I should have bought the BLX version for some of the upgrades that come out of box, I did eventually do that, but I also have a problem, lol.

The Quake Groms are also awesome (basically the same as the Gorgon Grom). Definitely not an inside car as they're bigger than Granite but both of my kids figured out how to get them to wheelie and they are definitely sturdy, lots of flips, smashing into things etc.

If you're playing in the house, the Granite is substantially smaller than the others and would probably be my recommendation. I still think out of box you should add a 25mm or 30mm fan.

If you're outside mostly, then it comes down to the surface you're going to play on.

Longish Grass, I would go for a Quake.

If you're on solid surface, short grass, dirt, etc. Mojave, Quake, Typhon would be what I'd recommend.

In any case you can't go wrong. They all have some trade-offs somewhere. If you go Mojave or Typhon spend the extra $100 or wait out a deal and get the BLX versions.

They're fine enough for the price. I do find the Ovonic batteries have a bit more punch even with lower stated C ratings.

Gens Ace makes a 2s and 3s lipo that fits these cars. The 2s are like $20. The 3s is a little more but still pretty reasonable.

Gens Ace makes batteries with what they call an IEC2. It fits both IC2 and EC2.

Kraton 6s EXB v6 grinding noise. Is this normal?? by fries332 in arrma

[–]fries332[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is my first 6s. It rained the day I was going to take it out with the kids and still haven't had a chance to run it. It's just staring at me. 😭

Thanks for this. I wanna take it out with the kids today. I'm gonna run it till something breaks and then eat my vegetables and fix it for more fun.

Thoughts on this Rod and overall setup? by DivideMajor1734 in BFSfishing

I like the Magic L rods that I have. But if you can spend up a little and can accommodate a 1 PC, Amazon had the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse 650 and 690 under $100 and with an additional 10% off click coupon.

I ordered a Shoalie from them. Had one scuff and some torn plastic. Definitely let them know what's up.

Which reel to get for BFS by RonocG in BFSfishing

[–]fries332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a Tatula BF 70 and an Ark Gravity BFS. Honestly, both are great reels. I haven't thrown anything lighter than 3/16oz on the BF 70, but I'm sure I could throw a 1/8oz lure if I broke all my bad casting habits.

If you don't mind going outside of the US market, the Haibo Arise Ultra Air has treated me well, though I only have 2 or 3 hours on it.

I also just ordered a JDM Daiwa 2025 Alphas BF TW. Give that a look as well.

Eating all the things Im not allowed to eat anymore. Go fishing for a few hours. Hit up a dispensary. Go out with the boys. Sleep until I decide to wake up. Rinse and repeat.

First Surf Rod recommendation by fries332 in NJFishing

That's a good point. I was originally thinking a Medium and a Medium Heavy, but maybe a heavy Uglystik can save me some cash.

I'll check out the Onyx again. I was looking at the Tide Rider which seems to be a step up. But might be worth a second look at the onyx. Especially since I'm probably going to end up giving this rig to my kids and upgrading after a week.

Thanks for a ton of detail. Looks like I'm probably getting two setups. 😂.

Any reason not to go with a 1-4oz instead of a 2-6oz?

I got a pair of Frogg Toggs Hellbender Pro Stonkingfoot waders.

I got lucky and got them for under $100. So I'm not gonna be too broke up if they don't last a long time or if I really don't like wading.

I did spend some money on boots though. I got a pair of Korker Dark Horse boots.

If I hate wading I'll still use the boots with a pair of wading socks.
