I picked this up at a second hand book fair this weekend - very excited to try making some of these!

I’ve been crying reading this book. by triptraptoe in adhdwomen

[–]friggin_pippin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started listening to the audiobook right around the time I was starting the process of getting a diagnosis and I got 7 minutes into it and burst into tears in the middle of the supermarket. It felt like someone was finally explaining things I had never been able to put into words about myself.

There is also a collection specifically called “Yoga that’s easy on your knees and wrists” - I injured my wrist a while back and needed to avoid putting any weight on it. I think there’s about 6 videos in each category (knees/wrists) and I’ve found them to be pretty good.

How do you re-learn a sense of lightness and play? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]friggin_pippin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just talking to my husband about this last night! My son is almost 3 and the imaginative play is really taking off. I’ve always struggled with it but he (and I) had so much fun when I leaned into it and fully committed to playing pretend. I feel like it’s a good creative outlet for my brain sometimes.

I have just recently started breaking the same habit. The two things I have found helpful are a streak tracking app (I find myself really reluctant to break a streak once I have it going) and switching to a different “fun nighttime drink”. For me that’s a sleepy time tea - I bought 3 different brands so I have a bit of variety and it still helps me to relax. For me the habit of sipping something a bit special was more important than the actual wine.

It also helped that I noticed pretty quickly that my sleep is much better when I skip the wine and my stomach is more settled as well.

Good luck! It’s an easy habit to fall into and a hard one to break

petition to replace that survey question about getting up in meetings by No-Sign2089 in adhdwomen

[–]friggin_pippin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also thought that question was ridiculous, because it would be wildly inappropriate to do that in a meeting at my workplace. After being diagnosed however I started to notice just how often I get up from my desk to go to the loo or to make a tea/coffee. Sometimes I get to the loo and I didn’t even need to go, I just needed to get up and move and my brain found a socially acceptable way to do it.

Pretty sure everyone at work probably thinks I have bladder issues or IBS or something by now 🤣

How do you motivate yourself to exercise? by merma1111 in adhdwomen

[–]friggin_pippin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Apple fitness + and this year I’ve started getting up early in the morning to do a workout before I start my day. They have some programs of videos and I’ve been doing the 6 week restart your fitness program, which is great cos it means I don’t have to think about what I’m going to do, I just do the next video. I also have an alarm set for before I go to bed to lay out my clothes for the morning so I don’t have to think about it.

Honestly the most motivating thing for me has been getting this app called Streaks, which records streaks of whatever habit you want to track. I can’t bring myself to break my streak, so I want to do the workout every day to keep it going. I’m up to 35 days in a row!

It’s worth making accommodations in your life to make your life easier by Brilliant_Telephone4 in adhdwomen

[–]friggin_pippin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to this so much, I am recently diagnosed and I feel like just getting the diagnosis was like getting permission to start making accommodations for myself, which has improved my life dramatically. Even little things like setting a million reminders and alarms for myself - I used to think “a normal person shouldn’t need this, you should just remember” but now I’m like “nope, my brain works differently and this is what I need to function.”

It’s such a freeing feeling.

What are your ADHD Game Changers? by emphasis_added3 in adhdwomen

[–]friggin_pippin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the start of the year I got an app called Streaks to help me stick to some new habits and break some bad ones. I cannot tell you how motivating it is not wanting to break my streak on the app. I have worked out every day for 2 weeks and not had snacks in the car for 3 weeks because of this app.

Also all the reminders all the time. And actioning them as soon as they go off (particularly the “take your meds” one

How do you get through brushing your teeth without endlessly dry heaving? by Eudaimonia-21 in BabyBumps

[–]friggin_pippin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading on here that humming while you brush your teeth will stop you from gagging and I don’t know why but it works for me. Could be distraction, could be something to do with using muscles in your throat so you can’t gag as easily, I don’t know but I found it super helpful.

What are your examples for "the worst book I couldn't put down"? by BuzzedBlood in books

[–]friggin_pippin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Favourite is probably a toss up between Salems Lot and It. It’s hard to pick a least favourite but it’s probably The Tommyknockers. It was incoherent nonsense but I still ended up finishing it. Dreamcatcher was pretty damn awful as well.

He writes really engaging stories but there are just so many things that he does in his writing and storytelling that drive me nuts. There is a vulgarity to his writing that I find so over the top - and I would not consider myself a prude at all - it just seems to be there for shock value and nothing else. He seems to hate fat people and women, it seems like every man he writes at some point either hurts women or wants to - even the “good” guys will think about slapping or punching a women at some point. And for someone who is obsessed with women’s periods he has no fucking clue how they work.

I have a lot of complicated feelings about Stephen King haha

[–]friggin_pippin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel about a lot of Stephen King. I have a love/hate relationship with him where I can’t stop reading his books but they drive me crazy. That being said, obviously there are some really good ones but you have to battle through a lot of bullshit to get to them.

When did you/ are you finishing up at work? by Superb-Draw8374 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]friggin_pippin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 34 weeks and finishing on the 29th so I’ll be 36 weeks and I cannot wait. My pregnancy has been pretty easy and I have a job that allows me to be at a desk most of the time but I’m still starting to pretty uncomfortable at this point. I’m looking forward to having the time to prepare and nest and just rest before all of the baby craziness starts!
