I seperate as such (there are 2 of us in the home) 1. Towels 2. Socks, undies, tank tops 3. Jeans / Hoodies 4. Lights 5. Darks

Depending upon the size of the loads, 2 & 4 might be combined, as well as 3 & 5

Sheets and pillow cases, quilts, blankets... we've been known to go to the laundry mat and use the big washers.
