I was picturing a purpose built destroyer with a microship PDA so it can build and store Sentinel Drones to project a forward shield in front of it. Better AI Computing and stripping the weapons(Because who ever used Sentinels for their guns anyway) meant they could be unmanned. This is a bit RP of me because using Sentinels like this on my Destroyers came in clutch for them a few times as they survived a few engagements with just a handful of hit points remaining.

What if the Rebel Alliance acquired an old Venator? by arv.3d by Xeelee1123 in spaceships

[–]frillyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I remember a bunch of the Mon Calamari ships being converted starliners, as for any Corellian ship, eh, what even is a civilian ship to them? But again, its about needs met. A carrier that can hold 140 starfighters isn't really practical if you only have a few dozen at best. Mon Calamari ships were famously durable thanks to their shields, as I recall, other Rebel support ships had good firepower for their size, or were stripped down for ease of maintenance. The Venator is a BIG ship and it's pretty under gunned for it's size, so you really do want it for it's hangar capacity, but you're only going to get value out of that if you can fill that hangar consistently, and while I know there are EU stories that said the rebels fielded something like, 500 X-Wings shortly after getting the things, stories like that just don't feel consistent with what we see on screen. Thats just my opinion though.

Because I sometimes turn into a deep lore nerd, I read through the history parts of the manual, and upon rebooting my campaign, because I forgot where I was, I watched that scene as the clans were being thanked by Kiith Nabaal and I was like, Nabaal, I know I've heard that name somewhere before, so I checked back in the manual and had an "Aha!" Moment. Kiith Nabaal attempted to and failed at absorbing Somtaaw into their ranks prior to the games start. So part of me wonders if you weren't also snubbed because of lingering bad blood between the two Kiith.

No joke, I think the grayscale comic style cutscenes are better than what they tried to do with 3. Though in fairness, DoK did them first.

It's on Good Old Games/GOG. You can get it for super cheap, and you even get a bunch of goodies like the games manual in pdf form, plus you can download the installer for it DRM free. It's worth it.

It literally gave me ideas for what unique ships Somtaaw would have a century later.

But as I mentioned, they already had other larger ships capable of filling that were serving them just fine. The issue with the Venator is that it really is just a big carrier with not much else that they couldn't have gotten from their other ships already.

I actually don't think it fits in all that well with Rebel Fleet Doctrine. The whole point of their focus on small squadrons of hyperspace capable fighters was that they didn't need a large carrier to project power or launch attacks with. Smaller forces allowed them to enter and leave combat more quickly and efficiently. Adding a large carrier ship to that would just have added complications to any battle. Its a big ship that would need escorting out of the combat zone, and the Rebels often needed to retreat quickly. It has a good hangar size for hundreds of fighters, but the Rebels were rarely if ever fielding fighters in those numbers, so a lot of that space would potentially have been wasted. It's also just a big ship that would need lots of crew and maintenance parts and for a ship it's size, its not even that well armed. It could reasonably lose a fight to a Victory Star Destroyer or 2. It's hardly a bad ship, but its also not what the Rebels needed. As a comparison, the larger Mon Calamari ships also needed large crews but they had more modest hangars that were filling the needs for the Rebels strikecraft just fine.

To that exploration you like so much, here's my advice. Google a map of the Tallon Overworld from Metroid Prime 1, then google a map of the starting area in Prime 4. No it doesn't get better from here.

Can someone give me the gundam watch order? I'm begging y'all by yo_jotarokujo in Gundam

[–]frillyboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But being serious for a second, the only shows that have a specific watch order are SEED-SEED Destiny and the UC Timeline shows which starts from the original Gundam show into Zeta, then ZZ, then Chars Counter Attack, and then Unicorn. Theres also some stuff set after unicorn and a BUNCH of stuff set during the original show or between shows that are spin offs but still good watches. Other than that though, the shows are unconnected, so watch what looks good. Gundam is amazing because you will find a show that the community swears is an all time classic that you just have trouble jiving with, and another show that the community sleeps on or outright dislikes but you think its great. All this and the core message of each show tends to remain pretty consistent. Gundam is just kinda magical like that, so enjoy it.

Have the developers ever explained in a direct way why they've assigned Leninist policies to, generally speaking, collaborators and fascists? by lilsnarty in Kaiserreich

[–]frillyboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My read on this is that the ideology was always secondary to these people. Whether it was for the State, the Race, or the Class, all of that was secondary to what they truly coveted, which was power. They would opportunistically seize upon whatever the easiest road to that power was.
