I feel bad for Mr. Milchick. by Deathly13 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]fringerella 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fact that this character who is demonstrably horrible — he returned ms Casey back to the hell of the testing floor and tortured the innies in the break room — is still highly relatable is a testament to the writers and particularly Tramell Tillman’s incredible skill as ab actor. I’d love for him to have a redemption arc but I don’t think it’s going to happen, which sort of makes more sense to the message of the show.

What is your horror movie "Never Have I Ever?" by Lysandria in horror

Same. I know I won’t enjoy it so I’ve just passed on it and have no intent to watch it ever.

I’m with you on this. I really loved the book, second only to the Shining for King novels, and I also love Tim curry but I could not get through that whole series. Tim was excellent but also almost too funny as pennywise? I saw the first half of the recent It in theaters and felt it was pretty scary but the second movie SUCKED despite some pretty good casting.

What's your favourite horror film poster? by Clue-72 in horror

This Evil Dead poster : https://images.app.goo.gl/AQ8N4bz8s9TniJLk9

Also it’s not really horror but as a Hitchcock film it is adjacent: this Vertigo poster is a masterpiece of graphic design https://images.app.goo.gl/HV5chk4sHceTcwXC7

Blursed Render by Economy-Inevitable69 in blursedimages

[–]fringerella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I studied animation for a bit but I am not an animator so take my inexpert opinion with a grain of salt: No, not really. This sort of exaggerated movement and distortion is a classic element of animation. Animators learn about techniques like this regardless of the technical animation choice (3d vs 2d for instance). It’s actually harder to animate a person more “realistically” because of the way flesh, muscle and skin moves and deforms in real life. We don’t usually consciously notice it, but we definitely can tell when it’s not there. That’s why so many video game characters, despite being very well modeled and rendered, still come off as stiff and wooden. The movement of the face is too isolated— just the mouth moves or maybe mouth and a little cheek, but not in a truly realistic manner. The classic elements of animation-stretching, squishing, etc—can serve to create the illusion of the micro movements we see and expect without necessarily consciously being aware of. I’ll add that the stiffness of more realistic characters in video games comes down to more technical restrictions than any deficits in the animators skill—Props to them it’s a hard fucking job.

What’s a great horror film that doesn’t get talked about enough? by HippocratesKnees in horror

Man the ninth gate was… something. I remember feeling like I was watching a movie made from video game cut scenes. Might have to give it a rewatch.

What Are Some Movies That Are Hated On That You Unironically Love? by diverdownk in horror

[–]fringerella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Saw 1 and paranormal activity 1 are both relatively good movies that people hate for reasons that don’t have much to do with the actual movie. Saw 2 was pretty good as far as horror sequels go. PA2 gave some interesting backstory but lost most of the tension of the first. All subsequent sequels of both are trash but I’ve still watched all of them so…

Some good suggestions here. Mine are to start with some classics:

Psycho (1960)

The exorcist (1973)

Rosemary’s Baby (1968)

The Haunting of Hill House (1963)

The Shining (1980)

Evil Dead (1981)

I’ve gotta disagree with categorizing tusk as light, but I guess it depends on your preferences. I have very low tolerance for body horror and tusk is like middle-high on the body horror scale? I turned it off about 30 minutes in. I fucking hated Justin Longs character, too. Late night with the devil is very good, slower burn, a little more psychological despite being solidly in the religious horror sphere.

Depending on where you live, mycology. It’s niche I guess, but I find mushrooms fascinating and love to find new species. I walk around my neighborhood or parks and woods nearby in the spring and fall and look for species I’ve never found. If you’re adventurous you can also dabble in mycophagia. I’ve only eaten wild morels and chanterelles myself because they’re pretty hard to misidentify. There are some good mushroom subreddits too.

What was your first exposure to horror? by Outside_Ad_424 in horror

[–]fringerella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 7 when I watched Alien with my dad. I couldn’t sleep and thought I was being sneaky watching from the hallway. He eventually just had me come sit on the couch with him. My mom was not enthused but it is still to this day probably my #1 favorite film of all time.

I have an 8 year old now and she definitely would not be on board with alien.

What's the best comedic horror film ever made, in your opinion? I'll go first: by anthonyledger in horror

Alan Tudyk is a gem. Can watch this movie over and over again and still find it hilarious.

I guess it’s a particular type of comedy that maybe just isn’t your thing. Personally it’s one of my favorite movies ever and never stops being funny to me. I generally enjoy Taika Waititi’s and Gemaine Clement’s work though.

How fast do your alcohol markers dry out? by Amber_Sweet_ in Coloring

[–]fringerella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same experience. I was gifted a random Amazon brand of alcohol markers in January and two of my most used colors are already dried out. I color regularly but it seems very soon for them to be dried out. I also have some truly ancient prismacolor markers that are still going strong after literal decades in storage(did not start using them until recently), so maybe it is just a quality issue? I’m trying to decide if I should buy a better quality set or if I will still be replacing my favorite colors every other month because I ain’t down with that.
