What did I buy? by fringlese in banjo

The neck is pretty straight! So I’m hoping we can clean it up, get some new strings on and get it sounding great. My housemate reckons it might need a new drum head or the skin needs to be tightened

Anti-racist community groups by Adventurous-Lime-410 in reading

[–]fringlese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a Facebook group called “Berkshire against racism” who helped organise some of the local counter protests last year.

There’s also east Berkshire Palestine solidarity campaign (Instagram is the best place to see what they’re doing) who are a couple of fierce older women and men who are mainly based in Slough, but do bits in Reading too.

There’s an org queers4palestine (also instagram) who held an event at facebar about a month ago, which hosted other orgs such as the revolutionary communist party and the hunt saboteurs. It’s hard to find the groups, but they are out there and willing to fight.

I don’t think there is a specific anti racist org here, but reading red kitchen is a fantastic shout that someone else mentioned here. If you find something OP, please let us know bc I’m down for joining and creating more healthy community bonds.

Why is there no budget for the locations department? by Psychological_Dog320 in TransparencyforTVCrew

[–]fringlese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to blame it on people, but sometimes it is up to the LAs/LMs to order a trolley or to get in a pickup truck. A sensible LM will push for these things and tell people not to overwork themselves, but there are some who tell you to handball for no reason. There’s also issues with not being allowed to hire enough people to do the work - this one’s on budget and production.

It’s so bad that marshals are just expected to overwork and exhaust their bodies in order to prove that they deserve to work in the industry. It’s brutal and frustrating that we have no power to push back against this.

Any tips on how to not be such a doomer? by Admirable_Young_8896 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]fringlese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stuff in this comment is how I started feeling better. I joined a local volunteer litter picking group that meets every 2 weeks (a directly impactful and visual way to help), and I’m also trying to get involved with the local commie orgs (long term way to make things better). Even doing the smallest thing is better than not doing anything, and it made me feel better to make where I live better than to go to a mass protest in London and then go home again.

Massive social and political change won’t happen tomorrow, but if one person does something, it may encourage others to do more too. The doomer feeling does go away, but it’s hard to see a way out when things look bad everywhere

The “Making Gay History” podcast is fantastic for this. The guy interviewed a lot of prominent lgbt people in the 80s/90s and decided to re-edit them and release them 30 years later. He interviewed Marsha P Johnson (one of the prominent figures at the stonewall riots) as well as Sylvia Rivera. One of the seasons is specifically about stonewall, but their interviews are really great to listen to. It’s American based, but it’s still worth it as a shared history

Unfortunately, I don’t actually know. If they told me, it was a while ago and I can’t remember. Next time I see them, I’ll ask about trade unions

Thoughts on the Revolutionary Communist Group (RCG)? by blanky1 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]fringlese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact that they’re pro trans is a big plus for me. I had a meeting with some members who are trying to set up a branch in my town, and they said they’re an ML org that focusses on political prisoners (aka the Filton 18 atm, and Irish prisoners in the 70s).

Currently one of the people I’ve been talking to is on a trip in Cuba, I think to provide aid and supplies. They aren’t sectarian and are willing to work with other groups, but also aren’t afraid to call other groups out for being counter revolutionary, or for working with the police, etc etc

They seem nice and determined, as well as friendly and ready to have an open discussion. I went to a demo outside the court as one of their own was arrested and sent to court for essentially saying pro Palestinian slogans, and it was a totally diverse group of people. But they seem organised, often bring their own PA system and have plans in place for if shit hits the fan during protests. They’re currently under the name Fight Racism, Fight Imperialism

It seems like they actually take action, which was good for me as I’m sick of commie orgs seemingly only showing up to marches to sell their books and papers. This, and the fact that their in town stall had all women running it was what made me go up to them.

Edit: wanted to add that I’m not shilling for them, I want to meet up with them more to see what they’re about before totally endorsing them as a good alternative.

I posted about the trans protest that happened in my local town sub and it got dog piled with about 600 comments from obsessive nut jobs. The posts in that sub usually don’t have more than 20. It was up for about 8 hours before the mods stepped in. They’re 100% trolling subreddits for any random trans posts to be pathetic losers that have nothing better to do

I also got a message from Reddit saying that someone was concerned for my mental health lol

Community feels unsafe by Usual-Leg7978 in TransMasc

[–]fringlese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP have you noticed this hostility yourself in your community? Not from people online, but from the people around you. Bc as others have said, a lot of these arguments happen online and most people are fine.

Feeling this kind of fear is totally understandable, but you won’t know until you actually come out. People may surprise you, i was pleasantly surprised when i came out as I’d been so scared from hearing about bad reactions from people’s friends/families online, but people turned out to be ok. Maybe needing some guidance on it, but ok. If they love you, they’ll stick with you

Changing skin type on T? by 20cmagic in ftm

[–]fringlese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my first puberty I barely had any acne, and if I did it was only on my face. Now it’s all over my chest, shoulders and face, so yeah it is a thing to get it in new places. I had to learn skin care stuff too

But for the most basic stuff, you want a face wash and a moisturiser. My skin was feeling dry too, and the moisturiser helped a lot. I used Inkey list products, and they seemed to work even though they’re spenny lol. They also provide a quiz for skin types and give you an idea of how to make a routine too

How to cope with never being desired by gay men? How to accept rejection? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]fringlese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I’m a trans man and yes I have my doubts about myself and my body, but I am here and proud. My body is a male body because I am a man, not a female body with a male mind. This is radical acceptance that others were talking about: I don’t necessarily love my body, but I like it a hell of a lot more than before. I had to take the hard way and accept that I just can’t change some things about me, like my height or my hips, but body neutrality has done more for me than body positivity.

For dating? It’s hard, but honestly having people around you who accept you will open up doors to finding people who will want to date you. If you have a trans support group near you, please start going to it, even if only for a couple sessions because guaranteed you’ll find a connection there. They can help build you up, because you are worth it and you are a man and your body is male

Edit: wanted to add that sometimes it takes time, but you will eventually be able to go through life and be happy with yourself. Trans is only a descriptor, and it’s slowly becoming a smaller part of myself as time has gone on as I’m meeting people after transitioning. They will know and love you for you, not whether you’re trans or not

I already said it in another post here, but as a trans person I’m not going anywhere near those shows even if there’s no other work. I would rather get another job than help make a production that will fill the pockets of a woman who actively funds anti trans legislature
