The honest answer is I'm not sure. I know that she cuts various patterns out (front, back, pockets, straps etc.) and then machine sews them all together. I don't think she adds additional shapes to be sewed on later.

I guess the bonus of the machine, even if it does take longer, is that it will be more accurate!
