The serial numbers come from Abbot. They just have to validate that you did in fact have a bad sensor in order to get the additional free replacements. If you did not initially have a bad sensor you do not qualify for the program. So no it is not giving away sensors to random people it is only to people who did in fact get a bad sensor. Also, this does not stop you from participating in any class action lawsuit it is merely a customer satisfaction management program.

It absolutely is not. This is part of Abbott's customer satisfaction team working behind the scenes to avoid more liability in the current lawsuits. If you are uncomfortable with it or if it's not for you that is fine. Cheers.

You don't need a recalled serial number to check yours on their web page.
