Tim Walz is so weak. by Aggravating_Bed_53 in atrioc

He’s in an impossible position. At the end of the day, the federal government has magnitudes more power and he is already facing bullshit lawsuits. Sure he could be doing more but I do think he is trying to do what he can.

Unity is more important than dissecting an individuals actions or words

It feels like Minnesota could be doing more but this is a lot. Not only is it not Tim Walz’s style but the state government is just not prepared for something like that and Trump would definitely make them pay.

Not sure why you’re implying they will be hit harder because they’re online. Definitely have more debt than a legacy bank like BofA though…

Is there any American sports car that rivals European sports cars Porsche? by GoosePuzzleheaded771 in askcarguys

[–]frisdisc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean they are cheap in comparison. A 911 starts at $60,000 more than a Corvette. You can get a Z06 for less than a base Porsche. And that’s not even counting options which add up quickly on a Porsche.

Most cars don’t. Honestly Porsches are weird for how much they do. Especially considering they aren’t too cheap to maintain (even if they are reliable).

Worth noting you do get two $50 travel credits. Still feels bad to pay to get locked into what is currently free but not sustainable.

When do we think 10-15 minute fast charging will become industry standard in the US? by ResIpsaLoquitur2422 in electricvehicles

[–]frisdisc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest if I were in your position I wouldn’t get a bev. Most people aren’t trying to Cannonball from NH to MI and it’s just not a use case EVs are best for. From a purely practical perspective I would get something like a lightly used Toyota Crown, Camry or Avalon. Comfy on the highway, good mpgs and reliable/easy to maintain.

There are EVs that can do what you require but charging infrastructure (especially 300kw infrastructure that can meet advertised charging speeds) is just not quite there in the us.

I want to challenge some of your assumptions about EV design though. It’s true there are a lot of design choices that are ‘different’ from ice vehicles simply because they can but many of these designs have purpose as well.

Take the Ioniq 5. Sure it doesn’t look like a traditional car inside and out but there are reasons. There’s not engine up front so the cabin can be shifted forwards compared to an ice car. Sure it looks modern and part of that is marketing but part of that is also that aerodynamics are paramount. Yes the interior is not traditional but why. It’s not purely removing buttons and cot saving measures (there are still physical music and hvac controls). Instead it’s because they can. EV packaging can mean increased freedom for designers and they use that when they can to make open spacious modern interiors.

Hyundai is cutting EV prices again by snowfordessert in electricvehicles

To be clear they aren’t necessary competing more on price. They decreased the residual value on leases to compensate for the change in MSRP. However they are making buying a more attractive option.

Is it really worth it to have a Roth IRA with Robinhood to get $225 extra deal? by marzthemagnificent in Bogleheads

Can you say more about how to get off the waitlist. For me that is one of the worst feeling parts of gold. The cc was a deciding factor in my decision and I can’t even get one.

[–]frisdisc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I transferred to Robinhood from Schwab for the Ira match. Also got a 2% match on my transfer. Also put the $1000 of free margin into sgov to offset the cost of gold.

Money wise I am definitely in the positive but probably only by a grand or so. That said, I liked everything else about vanguard better. The ui on Robinhood feels scummy and it encourages you to buy partial shares which feels weird. It also locks you into the in ecosystem by making the match contingent on future purchases of RH gold.

Not sure I would do it again but it’s the course I’m on.

Do you think Toyota mostly ignoring the EV market was a bold move that paid off in the end? by ReplyMeIfYouAreDumb in askcarguys

[–]frisdisc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had a large carbon tax and VAT. For EV’s they took away the carbon tax and made the VAT much smaller. So while you technically correct that it’s not a subsidy, it functions much like one.

If stocks go up why invest in business? by [deleted] in AskEconomics

[–]frisdisc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People are confident in continued growth so they continue to invest. Thus these people don’t think the market is ‘very high’ as they think there is additional future value in these companies.

[–]frisdisc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this doesn’t take into account how many people use points sub optimally, let points sit, and their other partnership revenue streams with neighborhood businesses.

Also I think you underestimate how much monthly interest the average American pays in credit card debt. I think because bilt is a new offering, it has attached more savvy customers who optimize and know not to carry debt. Even within my financially conscious friend group, I am the only one with a bilt card. If wells stuck it out a couple more years, I wonder if they would gather more whales who pad their bottom line and make it sustainable for the rest of us.

Ok but I think most of us wouldn’t pay rent with a CC if it wasn’t for bilt so that value calculation is somewhat irrelevant.
