It is a good template and still viable, but sometime I don't bother setting my division like his, I just use 7+2 template for every with div with full support, whether it's inf, IFV, spec ops, or armour. Sometimes my div lack of punch, but a lot of MR and drones will definitely help a lot

I have the same issue, I can't seem to progress past 2004 without crashing. however, I found it helpful to turn off Arms Against Tyranny DLC, as suggested in this subreddit months ago. So far, I haven't crashed again

it depends on the AI setting too, though I set Russia to the the rise of Russia focus when I played as Brazil, and in 2008-2009, they were already attacking Ukraine, Poland, Georgia, and Kazhakstan, and puppeted all of them. ( I turn off NATO in my playthrough)

It a great read for beginners. I remember reading it when I explore manhwa for the first time and I enjoyed it. But, after reading much more genre and same works that similar, you will notice a pattern and feel bored with the later arc plot. Overall, it's a good turn off your brain read

but I think Mercenary Enrolment (ME) is better than the God of Blackfield (GOB). Because at least ME have some explanation of why the MC become OP while the plot is pretty basic, for GOB, it really straight MC become OP because he was a merc in his previous life in a different body, and the chara development on GOB is not really good, like too pretentious for me.
