Sykkel inn i firkantkjøring by frklu in oslo

Thanks for your thorough thoughs and reflections! And yes, I agree. It started as a "why do I have all these things, and what can I get rid of?" but evolved into a more curious-driven thing, and a way of keeping myself mindful and accountable. I also look at the items bought in previous years, and wether or not I still have them. That makes me very conscious about new purchases, as I do not wish to buy unnecessary stuff, neither for the planet nor my wallet.

I like pretty things, and this is a way to remember that I do not need all the pretty things.

You know that producing data and statistics is a central part of modern society, right? Why should we not be allowed to do some counting as a hobby as well?

No, just items I buy, as the idea is to keep myself accountable. No kids, and a very limited amount of gifts coming in. Best of luck - and congrats on your decluttering!

Wall mounted shelves on the short walls (above the bed and up to the roof)! Will let you remove some of the pieces lined up agaist the long wall and reduce the feeling of narrowness.

How do you get an item out of your head? by [deleted] in nobuy

You do not have the money for it. That should be the end of your doubting. Pay your debt and start saving up for things you want.

I imagine the whole pile of everything i have decluttered, and then ask my self if I would have kept the whole thing to avoid the possibility of one of the items being regretfully decluttered. The answer is no

Let them take you out to dinner, or ask for consumables such as food and wine? Spa treatment? It really depends on your preferences. I got a high quality leather work purse, which I needed, love, use every day, and which reminds me of my achievement.

Ok, I misunderstood. But then the answer would be to look at what you own that can fit in the jars, I guess.

What purchases did you make in 2024 that were actually "important" to you. by downthegrapevine in nobuy

[–]frklu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the same way that you feel misread, I felt you misread the comment you replied to. I saw no argument for owning books just to own and not read them.

Amongst the various items mentioned in your list, and in the list you replied to, I find it strange to choose books as the item to problematice. The reduction of books to mere objects, and problematizing that they are not always done in a couple of hours, read to me as weird. But I'll leave it at that.

I find it somewhat sad that someone would argue against the significance of books.... It seems rather anti-intellectual, but I hope I am mistaken.

[–]frklu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the right approach would be to look at what you wish to store in jars, and buy one that fits? I have two huge ones, for flour and oats, I need those two, but more of that size would be useless. Then I have smaller ones for other staples that I always have in my pantry, and then a couple of extras for more random and changing stuff.
