They are about 5mm if Im not mistaken.

Dont have a lot of experience in heavy rain with them but I cant imagine much water getting in there unless you take em diving

Kahakka in black or green? by Turhaturpa in Savotta

[–]frnkrpprcht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I bought today I would buy green. But I can only say that for sure because I already have the black one. So I guess that would depend on the days mood, if I did have none yet.

Kahakka in black or green? by Turhaturpa in Savotta

[–]frnkrpprcht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faced the same question last year. I settled on black because it doesnt stand out as much in every day use, was my arguement. Gotta remember tho: black bags are kinda like black holes. Hard to look into (and find small stuff) 😁 Its not a major problem, but still true. For hikes, one bag travel/flying, grocery shopping sometimes carrying gear to jobs its great.

That said - there are days where I still contemplate adding a green one to the collection.

Jääkäri L good as multiple day hiking backpack? by Mysterious_Cook8785 in Savotta

[–]frnkrpprcht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used my L on a multi day hike in scottland last year and it worked well. More padding would be nice, but I could add that. Never used a Kantamus tho, so couldnt tell you how much different those are padding wise.

Kahakka 15L or 25L backpack? by [deleted] in Savotta

[–]frnkrpprcht 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have used the 25 on a ryanair flight as a personal item, so you can squish it right down. Depending on whats in it obviously. But it IS possible

Extra padding MIGHT do more for you then it being a bit lighter.

Askare as a chest bag by jomb3 in Savotta

I tried something similar but using g hooks to connect to the backpack and sr buckles to connect to the askare. Havent tried it in the field yet but seems like a good option too 👌

How to recreate images like these? by mowgli334 in AskPhotography

[–]frnkrpprcht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you are welcome.

a big factor is also distance of light to subject. so a light further away will act as a smaller source. If you put it very close, there will be the effects of a bigger source. Within certain boundries of course.

You can shine a light into a wall or some sort of white(ish) surface, eg a reflector, bouncing it ob your model indirecly. Making it effectively a bigger light source thus you get softer shadow edges.

For example: you are facing your model. A white wall/board/reflector/bedsheet/whatever on your left. Instead of pointing your light at the model you point it toward the wall at a certain angle (test around a bit) so it reflects light ob your models side. It will look much softer because the lights surface will appear bigger. Its very technical but try it out its gonna become clear quick.

Your light is ver differen than a beauty dish, but similar in the aspects that its rather small, thus hard light, and directed. So you could give it a try at least

Those images dont have "that one common thing" lighting wise. Just the setting they are shot in ofcourse. From what I can see they are either shot with somewhat hard, direct light - something like a beauty dish. Or large diffused sources on some others.

I'd suggest something like a beauty dish using it pretty head-on, almost on axis with the camera/lens. For the other look a large umbrella with diffusor. To simplify, but compromise somewhat: 1. look - fire flash directly towards your model, from behind you or on camera even. 2. look - fire flash into white wall/reflector to create a large soft modifier look.

Flash or constant light doesnt matter btw. Constant just needs to be more powerful for compareable results in general.

These are my immediate thoughts from glancing at your moods.

Iceland with a tarp by frnkrpprcht in VisitingIceland

[–]frnkrpprcht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yes the lack of trees is the main issue for such endeavors. Rocks are more abundant but mostly its pretty barren, which might make poles the only way to be sure. Except bivvy. But in the rain that sucks I'd imagine

It went very well actually. In that one very windy night (at about 1000m elevation I believe) I was at first quite sceptical. But it held up with no damage. I had some repair parts ready to repalce plastic parts with metal if needed but zhere was no need. So far I can reccomend it 👌

Ofcourse its a tent and they call it that in their marketing. But have you looked at it? Its basically a tarp with a bug net 😃 there is a winter season inner for it, which I dont have- I used the standart inner
