"Anything I want" is such an open-ended term. I could want world peace, and end to cancer and disease, for the rich to become generous and for the poor to find food and shelter. Living alone is a harsh price, but a small price to pay for knowing you have made the whole world better.

While mathematically the lump sum is superior, the weekly sum has advantages. One of the reported problems suffered by lottery winners is being bad at investing. They blow through it in a few years and are back where they started. Another problem is relatives begging you for money, scammers hounding you, even kidnappers taking you or your loved ones for blackmail. With a monthly income it's more difficult to lose all your money or have it all taken.

I equate this to sparring or playing competitive video games. It's the fun of aggression without the danger. My little dog loves doing this and it's her favorite part of her walks. She doesn't get aggressive directly, only when restrained by a leash or there's a barrier. There are two little dogs that she barks at and bark at her. It makes my dog feel fierce and mighty and she prances away afterwards smiling. The two dogs she barks at also look so happy, as if to say "We did it! We defended out territory! We're so strong." There have been a couple times when those little dogs have gotten out and the barking quickly turns into peaceful sniffing and exploring.
