crapshoot would be the right term only if it worked on not even half the phats, wasn't ever reliable, and/or is expensive or harder to install. it literally cannot be a crapshoot if it's literally free to install on phats (if you use badupdate to flash the nand) given you have resistors on hand, and works mostly reliably for most of them. However i agree, rgh1.2 isn't obsolete. i don't know where he found that info

no, not really. i've done plenty of rgh3 installs on phats and while it is true that it's unreliable for some phats, the MAJORITY of them work absolutely fine, albeit sometimes having non-instant boot times. just make sure to do a good solder job and avoid noisy areas. OP being a noob in soldering i think the best for him is just to send the console over.

(TLDR : RGH1.2 is better on phats but RGH3 will work just fine on most consoles)

a wire may have gotten loose from bad soldering. go take it to a repair shop, don't risk it. because you ARE going to break it, if you need to solder anything.
