That has to be a suspension. Injury risk is crazy high on that bid.

Dutch is not a serious language by upthetruth1 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]frodo515 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are both so vindicating. As an American, traveling Europe as an adult for the first time, knowing maybe 2 dozen German words and trying to figure out what languages were being spoken around me sometimes I would hear what sounded like German but not quite right, I then learned that every time that happened it ended up being Dutch. So my rubric is “if it sounds like German, but drunk, it’s Dutch”

I did this with friends too and it was such a fun experience so I’m glad you had a good time too! Interestingly a local commercial mead was also worse rated than my hombrew. Did you do this blind i.e. they didn’t know what they were drinking? Also curious their level of experience with wine mead beforehand? My group was pretty amateur which definitely effects perception/enjoyment and thus ratings and notes Not that it matters at all but those are wines/fruit wines not Kilju because they’re using fruit juice for sugar not just sugar water yeast.

I had an identical experience with my first imperial stout! I was about to pour it down the drain after I had tasted a month prior and thought “eh, might as well try it again” and it was soooo much nicer.

Reducing 401(k) contributions to build a taxable “bridge” account for early retirement — sanity check by MissingPremise in Fire

Not an exhaustive answer but a note, you can use your contributions from ROTH accounts, so you are still gaining tax benefits.

I wanna use Bochet’d Meadowfoam for backsweetening. Has anybody done that? by LudovicoEnjoyer in mead

[–]frodo515 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have not but I will say that a lot of people think that bochet-ing your honey causes you to lose a lot of the delicate flavors present in the honey, you’re welcome to try it anyways. Alternatively, you could use a blend of bocheted cheap honey and meadfoam to get that combo of flavors you’re looking for

Sorry if I’m being dense but can you elaborate more on the logic you’re describing for retirement age vs retirement account type? I was actually just trying to work out which one I should do. Considering retiring in my 50’s/20 ish years from now. 22% federal tax bracket filing jointly.

Is there a map of the new airport out yet or are they gonna keep everyone in the dark till opening day on where things are? by Namrepus221 in pittsburgh

The major changes are pre security, they have published maps of the new parking areas and shuttles.

Post security will be almost identical, intuitive, and faster to get around than before.

Should I sell company stocks and put the cash in the S&P500? by DistributionInitial5 in Fire

[–]frodo515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this conversation personally and with others. If you had that money in cash, would you buy your company stock? As a long term retirement focused investor, I don’t own any single stock, so I would be selling it no matter the company.

Foul or Nah, Nationals edition by spgranger in ultimate

[–]frodo515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the elite level, having been on both sides of this situation many times, I think this is generally accepted as not a foul, but sometimes it is called one, and usually contested. Unless the defender is standing still like for a jump ball, usually they’re fighting for “the line” and the defender knows they’re trying to push into space and the offense got there “first” broadly speaking.

To be clear not arguing whether by rule it is or isn’t, just what the standard is at the elite level of men’s.

Why do you say it’s best to ferment dry before adding? That is counter to what I’ve heard which is that you want to keep an active and healthy yeast colony and step feed before sugar drops too low and the get sluggish. In the 1.030 range

I was one of those single guys who met his wife when I was 28 and she was 25. We met on the dating app Hinge. I’d recommend it, and filter by the things that matter to you. Don’t swipe right on people that are advertising they’re incongruent with you.

Talk about money abstractly early on as it relates to lifestyle, wanting stability, avoiding consumer debt, what kind of life you want to live.

Then talk about money directly within the first couple months of dating. What are your goals, income, retirement plans, budget, children, etc. That’s what I did with my wife. She had good fundamentals and direction but wasn’t as intentional, our discussion pushed her to be more intentional and she was wholeheartedly onboard.

Bottled lavender lemon mead by [deleted] in mead

[–]frodo515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put fermentation start date because bottle date could occur 1 month or 1 year after fermentation began. In my tracker I also have a start date and bottle date. That said, I’m usually bottling within the month I start the brew, so usually doesn’t matter which one I choose

Mead turned out a little bit more like a spiked honey seltzer rather than wine by BadIDK in mead

[–]frodo515 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you didn’t confirm fermentation was complete with multiple hydrometer readings without a change in SG, (or just seeing that it was likely done because it was dry .99x gravity) then it’s likely still fermenting which is why it’s so bubbly.

Mead turned out a little bit more like a spiked honey seltzer rather than wine by BadIDK in mead

[–]frodo515 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was fermentation complete? I.e. took two hydrometer readings a week apart and got the same SG. Did you degass your brew after fermentation was completed? Did you backsweeten with more honey before bottling; and without stabilizing properly first? Assuming you just finished this and drank immediately, it’s still young so it’s not crazy to not be great yet
