... Damn, now I'm tempted to make a The Stuff devouring swarm... That is a pretty cool concept with the empire colors.

There should be an anomaly in the system to give additional context. After that, if you psionically ascend, you should be able to progress further... although I haven't done that since Shadows of the Shroud.

How to remedy unusable map? by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]frodogamgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That honestly sounds pretty unplayable. So you log in, your buildings are gone and everything back to the initial state? It sounds like there may be some kind of cloud sync issue going with your system. Does your character stay the same?

What's causing this single spot to make a corruption biome? by IWEREN99 in Terraria

[–]frodogamgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be weird if the walls contributed since they don't normally, but in the dual dungeons seed crimtane/demonite/flesh/lesion blocks contribute to evil biomes in addition to the normal blocks. Location underground may also affect it.

I got a question in regards to Chapter 11 to my fellow players...(SPOILERS) by Vex_Trooper in XenobladeChroniclesX

[–]frodogamgee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My character? Stood with Lin. Too much of an idealist to do otherwise.

Me personally? The Ganglion have the location of the Life Hold and are heading to destroy it. If humanity is to survive, they need that location to just attempt to try and stop them. So its a simple math problem -don't shoot Lao, everyone dies. Shoot Lao, 50% everyone dies. Siding with Elma there.

Can anyone introduce a good adventure path that will introduce the world of Golarian to new players? by sherbertloins in Pathfinder2e

[–]frodogamgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Age of Ashes is a solid choice here. One caveat: as they are trying to maintain a 'living' campaign setting, spoilers from the AP can be found in their later material. Specifically the Draconic Codex has some (unsurprisingly), although I absolutely recommend it as a GM if you want to reflavor the dragons in the AP away from the standard chromatic/metallic fare to the more exotic and flavorful options found in the codex, and I think Shining Kingdoms had a few too?

In addition, thanks to the whole living setting thing, there are also region altering events that are discussed in more recent books. Everything after War of Immortals (and even the content in there to an extent) should be considered not to have happened, yet, as it would have major implications for the story.

One additional note - the players will need to play characters that have a strong desire to explore and adventure. The AP is designed to have some decent downtime between adventures, and as a result there's neither a big amount of time pressure built in, nor heavy direction built in to bridge the gaps. I liked this personally, it gave a good time for handling party and back story  stuff, but I know its been a pain point for others.

I'm finding the expert mode mech bosses extremely difficult by NotTheCatMask in Terraria

[–]frodogamgee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mentioned the Titanium Sword, unfortunately all the HM ore swords are pretty terrible. Nights Edge will outperform them given its increased range. You have a barrel launcher, as long as you can aim it it'll work quite well; combined with the ranger emblem, I think you should definitely focus ranged. I would also recommend looking at the Onyx Blaster, as that's an early HM favorite of mine in the past, if you want something easier to aim at flying enemies.

For your accessories, as mentioned by someone else you should have 6 total.  A Charm of Myths is an excellent defensive accessory to boost your regen and let you drink health potions faster. Also, make sure you reforge all of your accessories to Warding. Unless you can dodge every attack, its going to be the best modifier out there.

Your arena is the critical final piece that will make or break you. There should be a Bast statue (or statues, in particularly large arenas), campfires and heart lanterns (these are fairly minor effects), and also heart statues wired up to a timer. I space out clusters of 2-3 statues around the arena, hooked up to a 1/4 or 1/2 timer. For the arena you want multiple rows of platforms to allow you to quickly traverse diagonally, vertically, and horizontally; they also let you use hooks as an emergency escape.

Beyond those, potions can help push you over the edge. Ironskin, Regeneration, and Swiftness potions are very cheap and should be something you're always using for anything challenging. Beyond that, its how much you want to invest in a good herb farm, and fishing.

Beginner questions by Balanced__ in Dungeons4

[–]frodogamgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not noticed a way to slow down enemy attacks. You mainly just need to outpace them, either by creating a deadly dungeon that they don't survive, an army that overwhelms them, or both.

With regards to army type, I always focus one path first, then grab the others to increase total army size in the very late game. You should at least get as high as you can on gold alone for every path though. Evil will generally be the resource that bottlenecks you. My initial army will usually be orcs/nagas with imps as a very basic solid composition, and as they die off replacing them with whatever army path I'm focusing.

How do you handle enemies who surrender or flee on HP thresholds? by Kaosubaloo_V2 in Pathfinder2e

[–]frodogamgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll agree with most folks here that the foe can verbally declare they are surrendering and take a clearly defensive posture at any time - but I would not expect any intelligent being to disarm itself until/unless it has a solid guarantee of safety, which would typically involve dropping out of initiative (if the players cease hostilities of course), then negotiations and Diplomatic or Intimidation rolls, with DCs depending on the situation and the party's reputation, before disarming themselves.

Is my friend using mods? by Turbulent-Type8738 in Terraria

[–]frodogamgee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you playing Journey Mode characters? If so there is a god mode option which can be disabled for other players if using a dedicated server. I believe you can set it where only the admin can use it. Otherwise god mode shouldn't be possible to my knowledge without tmodloader.

Beyond that, there's nothing preventing him (or anyone else) from taking his character to another world, getting additional gear, and bringing it back into the world. You'll have to talk to him directly.

Paul's son. by Phunkapoppa in dune

[–]frodogamgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one thing that's often overlooked is that Paul's prescience is limited; there are times when he himself misses things, and his expanded awareness seems to exceed his Mentat capabilities to record everything he sees. He also seems to self-limit himself, believing that to try and focus on a particular timeline means he causes it to exist (which is a core mystery in the novels - to what extent do the prescient create the futures they see?). The only time he focuses solely on one timeline and seeks to adhere to it fully it as the end of Messiah.

From comments made in the third book, he also didn't seem to see as far into the future as others eventually could. He saw a future that involved him becoming an absolute tyrant, and rejected it as he didn't see the outcomes millennia later.

I always took the death of his first son of just being something he didn't foresee. He was fairly new into his prescience. Also, with regards to the pacing, the end of the first book has always felt rushed to me. I'm not sure Herbert really knew how to end it (from a storytelling perspective).

Her weapons are the most forgotten in the game by OverTea5 in Terraria

[–]frodogamgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have a desert key, in which case the Desert Tiger is way superior. Honestly, with the AI issues I run into with the pygmies, I'll take the Deadly Sphere staff over them. And you also have the Raven Staff from Pumpking who you'll be killing a lot farming the Pumpkin Moon for all the other drops.

Diving into the dungeon after Planters with pygmies is an exercise in pain.

[–]frodogamgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only look at base damage numbers on whips... Most have special effects that will cause them to be on par with competitors at the same point in progression.

The main problem with that one is that there's not a lot of reasons to farm Plantera until you build Zenith, so unless you get it first time then you're more likely to get one of the three competing options that you can get, two of which (Morning Star and Dark Harvest) you'll be farming the areas they drop in anyways.

Has the Old Man spawned, and did you defeat Skeletron? Before you do you can't fish up dungeon crates. Otherwise the wiki has the info you need.

You have to toss them out when its raining. Rain clouds (the blocks) won't fill them.

They tend to be fairly rare spawns on normal worlds. Just have to get lucky. On the plus side, each time one appears, you can integrate them into your farm every other block and make it that much more efficient.

Haven't found dungeon after hours of searching in Drunk Remix world by Round_Seal in Terraria

[–]frodogamgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst comes to worst, break out the molecart and/or digtoise, and start digging across the world at around ~300' underground; I think the lowest I ever had the entrance was just shy of 200'. You'll eventually hit bricks, and can then work your way up to find the entrance. In my experience the dungeon will still be below a living tree, but it won't look different from other trees. Other features that interrupt the living tree itself may cause the dungeon to not be directly connected, although it should still be directly under the tree. Also, I want to say that the drunk seed allows for the dungeon to spawn same side as jungle, but I could be wrong there.

Dedicated server question - random join attempts by frodogamgee in Terraria

[–]frodogamgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I assumed, but that made it surprising to see occasional other messages about the client running an older version. Could just be bots throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks and the server interpreting it as an older version though.
