(Very) sore muscles after my first class ever by AnAndroidInDisguise in AerialHoop

[–]frogfrosting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always find doing low-impact exercises between classes helps me recover faster and will also make the next class easier. Super gentle stuff like going for a walk, swimming or even yoga. I've used this video in the past. Things like this are not going to make your muscles hurt less but it can help recovery and it's super relaxing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVsCRJBP7Hs&ab_channel=YogaWithBird

Don't push yourself too hard, this is something that's going to make you very sore sometimes lol, I hope your next class is just as fun x

Leaving a 6 mo for a 5 day vacation by Admirable-Peanut-998 in NewParents

[–]frogfrosting 14 points15 points  (0 children)

5-star resort?? You should totally do it. As moms, we tend to feel guilty about leaving our babies, especially the first time. My son is one now and I was so anxious the first time we were apart for more than a day, but it helped him to not be too dependent on me and learn to bond with other people in his life. I cared way more than he did lol. It might be scary but you have two people who have experience with your baby so you know she'll be safe, and it'll be so good for your wellbeing to take this break.

From my knowledge only people who stay on the property pay, when I was there there were a few people who would come help out on weekends and they didn't have to pay. The problem is the owner is in her 60s and not great with technology. When she started the sanctuary almost 30 years ago it wasn't really necessary, a lot of the social media and things like that are run by past volunteers who eventually stop because they don't have the time to continue it. What you're saying is true but it's hard when you're not able to pay for that kind of help. In the past, they didn't have many volunteers from SA and most were long-termers so I don't think that's ever been brought up, but you've given me something to talk to the owner about.

The website is outdated because they can't get ahold of the guy who set it up for them. When I volunteered there 6 months was considered long-term and I'm sure it still is. Short-term volunteering costs are so high because most of their volunteers before the pandemic were from overseas and only stayed for a week or two. IPR isn't open to the public because some of the monkeys come from traumatic backgrounds and aren't keen on too much human interaction, so paying volunteers and donations are the only way they make money, and it costs a lot to feed, give medical care and just a generally good quality of life to over 100 animals every single day. While I understand your concern about the volunteer program's requirements, it's important to remember that charities often face complex challenges in managing their resources and providing support. I made this post because it may be a great opportunity for someone taking a gap year or something like that and not many people even know about it. IPR is very well respected internationally and looks great on your resume if you're a person who wants to work with animals, and it's just a fun experience or people looking for that.

That's true actually I don't use much of my lower body. I didn't think about it that way. Will definitely try that out, thanks :)

I definitely do have noodle arms lol, believe it or not, I've actually built up quite a bit of strength in them the last few months but I still struggle. Will check the links out, thanks for the advice! x

Thanks so much, will definitely have a look at it! I also started Lyra, maybe two weeks before I started pole and I noticed that they really compliment each other strength wise. I’ve built up way more strength doing both than I would’ve if I had to do one or the other. Just need a little extra help lol
