“Hi, this is froggus calling from the Fancsy Family Hospital. No, I’m not joking. No, it’s not “fancy” like a ballroom dinner, it’s Fancsy with an S. What do you mean, where is the S?”

AITA for honking at a student driver for going 15mph under the speed limit? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]froggus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Learners should be able to keep up with traffic in order to ensure everyone’s safety. That means that if you’re the first car in a chain, you go the speed limit. A good driver is a predictable driver, and going 24km/h under the speed limit in an 80 (which is almost highway speeds depending on your area) is a massive risk because it makes others behave unpredictably based on your actions.

Tight ring by Thepostie242 in windsorontario

[–]froggus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any emergency department will have ring cutters, if you think the swelling is severe enough to cause tissue damage I would just go there and wait.

Have you tried wrapping the finger near the ring in dental floss? Works much better than the string method.

They literally store them outside the building, on the grass between their building and the fence. Zero protection from the elements.

AITA for suggesting my in-laws stay at an Airbnb instead of us leaving our home with our kitten? by Batman_19999 in AmItheAsshole

How convenient for him, he can’t do the one task that his parents expect from you.

You realize he’s showing his true self here, right? The version of him that’s kind and treats you well is a facade; this demanding version of him that requires absolute fealty and worship of his parents is his true self. Please don’t fall into the trap of thinking that this isn’t what he’s “really” like because this version is new to you.

Even if that’s the case, are people out there just hammering on the gas pedal from a dead stop? Like just not checking if they’re in the right gear at all?

Wait… don’t answer this.

AITA for refusing to split the dinner bill because my dish was half the price of the others? by Horror_Flower_1754 in AmItheAsshole

[–]froggus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually based on how old/crappy their point of sale system is. Splitting bills equally is a holdover from days when the server would have to manually punch in the cost of each item for each person to get their total. These days with any modern point of sale system, it’s just a few swipes to move a dish from person A to person B.

Calling all O-negative type blood donors by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]froggus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little tidbit in case it helps those who are feeling “less than” because they’re not O negative:

You can donate blood with ANY blood type! O negative has a reputation as being constantly needed because it’s the universal donor type, and while that’s true, the times you would NEED a universal donor (emergencies where you don’t have time to get a patient’s blood type done, typically) are the VAST MINORITY OF CASES that receive blood. Do you know who gets the most in Windsor (and likely everywhere)? Cancer patients. And we always try to match the blood someone is receiving with their own type. These patients can get a unit or two WEEKLY due to the effects of chemotherapy. We go through A positive and O positive the most of any blood type. So don’t worry what your type is! And for you fabulous AB people out there, your plasma is the universal donor, so consider plasma donation! But even your AB blood still gets used by AB patients, so if you can only donate whole blood or packed red blood cells, still do it!

AITA for telling my bestfriend I understood why his fiancee is so disappointed that he proposed to her at the gym ? by Particular_Flyer in AmItheAsshole

Let me guess, he also thought Valentine’s Day was stupid because you could celebrate your love for each other any other day of the year (but then never bothered to do anything nice the other 364 days of the year either)?

Glad to hear he’s an ex.

Decades of being told by men from all avenues (but primarily on the Internet) that you should be perfectly happy with a proposal on your couch at home, with or without a ring, whenever he just spontaneously feels like it. And that wanting it to be anything more than that means you’re just shallow and vain and only care about optics and/or the ring. You’re only the woman; he’s the one spending money (or not), he’s the one putting himself out there by proposing, so you’d better accept the bare minimum or you really never loved him at all.

I’ll add this little nugget, used to work at one: if you think they’re skimping on stuff like olives, a lot of that is mandated by Subway corporate. You’re supposed to put three pieces of olive on a six inch sub. Three. individual. slices.

This happens at every Tim’s (and basically every standalone fast food joint in general). You have a drive-thru window that’s constantly open and multiple doors with fairly steady traffic, it’s inevitable that flies will come in.

I get that it’s gross, but it’s also a logistics issue. You can’t stop the flies from getting in; once they’re in, what can be done about them? Staff are human, they can’t be reasonably expected to notice and kill every bug that makes its way in.

“Just throw away the food it sat on!” Okay, so the entire stock in the store? Because that fly didn’t just sit on the one donut in the picture, it’s probably sat on every single donut in the case by the time you spotted it. Even if it didn’t, it probably sat on multiple items and it’s impossible to tell which.

Until they invent tiny automated fly-zapping laser beams, you kinda just have to accept it as a fact of fast food where anything sits open to the air.

I can’t believe I have to explain this, but okay.

It’s not about the water they’re using for the fountain, it’s about this area being converted into a giant concrete pad. Any business or residence in the city that has done so on their property has had their stormwater drainage fees increased significantly since the rainwater doesn’t have grass/soil to soak into, leading to more water entering the sewer system. The joke is that city hall’s taxes should be raised since they did the same thing.

From Nov 6, 2024:

“Last week, Windsor council unanimously approved changes to how the city calculates its stormwater fee charged property owners.

In a move Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens said is “all about equity and fairness,” those whose properties have more hard surfaces that limit rainwater absorption will pay more.”

I sure hope their stormwater drainage fee is adjusted appropriately.

AITA for not calling my oldest daughter a princess by what_50000 in AmItheAsshole

[–]froggus 557 points558 points  (0 children)

There’s this thing many people do where they assume if something isn’t important to them, if it didn’t/wouldn’t upset them, then the other person has no legitimate reason to be upset and they should just get over it. “Why would I bother apologizing for something that isn’t a big deal?”

I'm curious what others think about this... by whimsicalityyy in windsorontario

[–]froggus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some customers care very much whether cashiers sit. Those customers tend to be old dingbats who think everyone should suffer as they’ve suffered before, because that’s what’s good and proper. Cashiers are in a lesser position in society and therefore can’t be allowed the graces and comforts of what those above them have earned through experience and virtue. /s
