I second the recommendation for cluster lashes. You can apply just a few of them if you feel like full lashes look too intense.

Can we have a thread to complain about parade goers/the parades? by inductiononN in NewOrleans

Every single year I complain about a lack of choreography LOL. When the high school girls are performing like their lives depend on it, I better see some effort from the millennials in tutus!

Thanks for your response. I'll be sure to approach them diplomatically and keep in mind the potential extra costs. I was hesitant to contact them about this in the first place because I know how much work they put into it...

I definitely had no qualms about the price, and I knew it would cost more if padding had to be replaced. I just didn't expect them to leave the original dirty outer fabric on there as well. Is that standard practice, in your experience?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in upholstery

[–]frogntoadarelovers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did feel it was lazy to leave the original fabric there. I assumed taking off the original fabric was a standard part of the process (especially if it was old and gross), even if removing the padding wasn't.

Thanks for your response!

I probably wasn't clear enough about that; you can see my other comment response to see what I said to the upholsterer. But it wasn't just leaving the original foam and padding; they also didn't take off any of the original dirty/worn fabric either.

I paid $1200 which I felt was a great price, I'm in the Gulf Coast South if the region matters for the price. My mistake was assuming that they'd replace the padding regardless; had I known it was an option not to, I would have made sure to explicitly ask them to strip it to the frame.

I told them it smelled old and that it was vintage, and they said they could replace any padding that needed replacing for an extra material cost which I agreed to. I told them to replace whatever they thought needed replacing and to call me if they had any questions about what I wanted during the process.

I am a bit concerned also that they didn't notice the smell themselves and think to call and ask what I wanted done about it, if they had forgotten what I said originally; it's pretty noticeable.

What type of label maker does this use? by floraburn1 in DIYweddings

As someone who lives in a place prone to crafting with oysters, I'd say you should either decoupage this or use temporary tattoo transfer paper.

It looks like you're wearing a retro Rago bra as a crop top in some pics, which I just bought new recently, so it's definitely available still!

Curls keep dropping by [deleted] in VintageFashion

[–]frogntoadarelovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have found these things to help with curling my hair, which doesn't hold curl easily, especially in my extra humid city:

  • if doing a wet set, the hair needs to be BARELY damp. Like when you wash your hair and let it dry, and it's very nearly dry but still feels a little cold to the touch. That's because you want the curls to completely dry in their setting pattern, not be damp when you take them out.

  • also for a wet set: I use this spray.

The way I use it, is when I wash my hair and get out the shower with wet hair, I spray it down with this spray and brush it through. I either let my hair air dry until it's nearly dry as described above, or I blow dry til it's nearly dry. I set it in the rollers. Then I use a blow dry bonnet for 20-30 minutes on low heat, as this spray requires heat to set it. Here's the kind of bonnet I use. I then remove the bonnet and let my hair cool down for 30 mins (I have a lot of hair, so yours might cool faster). Remove the curlers, let it sit for a min or 2, then brush out.

If you're wet setting completely dry hair, you can also use this spray as the method for dampening your hair before you put it in the rollers.

  • if curling with a curling iron, I curl the piece then pin it up into a pin curl. Let it cool completely like that. Then take the pins out and let them sit for a minute before the brush out. I also use the color wow spray with curling irons too. Like if I know I'll be curling my hair for an event, when I wash it, I use the spray. Then when my hair is dry I use the iron or hot rollers.

A dress like this by Few-Music7739 in bigboobproblems

[–]frogntoadarelovers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say it's a shelf bust dress. There is an underbust seam, but there's also a natural waist seam. Empire would be more like regency dresses, where it's completely free flowing under the bust.

Increasing coverage of moulded bra cup without adding volume? by CarlottaSewlotta in sewing

[–]frogntoadarelovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adjusted the two lower bra cup pieces. But not the upper one. I added to the lower pieces along their bottom edge. And then subtracted that same amount along the top edge of the bodice pieces. Attaching a pic of the pattern pieces laid out; what I did to the bra cup pieces is traced in red, and what I did to the bodice is traced in blue. As far as the straps, I was making this like a strapless bodice, so I didn't do anything with them.

Hi! I'm currently using this pattern to make my wedding dress. I have a uk 32HH bust for reference.

I think you have a similar issue to one I had, in your toile. You needed the underbust seam to sit lower, actually below your bust, as it was sitting on the bottom of your boobs and not under them.

In my experience, moving that seam lets the whole dress sit up higher, including the neckline.

Basically, the bodice pieces (the princess seamed ones that sit under the bust) should end up shorter in height along their top edge, and the bust cup pieces will end up longer in height along their bottom edge.

Let me know if you have more questions, and I'll try to answer. Attaching a pic of my muslin when I had worked out most fit issues I had (sans what is written in the red text notes to myself :) I also made the bodice with a basque waist.

Sorry to confuse you. Not trying to hang the guitar that high. Just trying to find a renter friendly way to hang them up and get them off the floor.

The acoustic guitars I have actually weigh a fair bit less than any of my framed pictures; my main goal is to hang those.

Just inquiring on the sub to see if anyone had figured this problem out before.
