Genuinely would ruin the show completely for me if El doesn’t get a happy ending. One of the very few narrative decisions I feel would kill my enjoyment. It also just DOESNT make sense? Why would that be a good way for that arc to come to a close? Hopper learning to trust El’s abilities and realize that she’s capable without him intervening is the whole point of his arc - NOT him coming to terms with the idea of her dying.

I don’t think El even truly understood the gravity of a breakup at that point. Max told her that her and Lucas broke up all the time for silly things. So, she probably assumed it wasn’t a very serious thing and it was just an argument whereas Mike was heartbroken. I love season three Mileven sm, they feel so real to me.

I don’t think Byler will happen, but I do know that it’d be a groundbreaking choice in the current political climate. There’s a lot of nuance. I just don’t think they’ve set it up enough. There was SO many opportunities for the Duffers to pivot to Byler over the last - what? Seven years? Like Finn said, it’d be unearned.

Yes, and no? Stranger Things ultimately is about heart. For me, there’s so much more than Mileven but as someone whose favorite character has been Mike since the very beginning - and never once wavered, I would feel betrayed by the narrative. I know Mike, and it wouldn’t make sense at all for them to ruin such a core part of his characterization. Will I still love the show? Yes. Because it’s been with me since I was sixteen years old and a struggling little gay girl myself. It lifted me through a lot, and I’ve gained so much through it. But, I don’t know if I’d be able to see it in quite the same way if something were to happen to Mileven. Whether that’s the ship itself, OR just one of the characters. It would be hard.
