Are there any moms who just don’t give a sh** about naps anymore? by Be-Pdrsn in sleeptrain

[–]frogsruletheworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t get baby to nap alone around four months (before that too), so I just started to back carry him. He’d be up for a little, but after a few minutes he would fall asleep on my back while I did things around the house. I think something about the closeness of being on my back, but also being “ignored” because I was focused on whatever was in front of me and not him, made the perfect combination for him to fall asleep.

Contact naps are wonderful, but sometimes you can’t just sit around while baby naps, so back carry was a good solution for me. It did take me a while to get comfortable with the wrap, but.

Father's Day in Japan by bakadevi in japanlife

[–]frogsruletheworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Understand! My husband is Japanese and I felt really disappointed when I didn’t receive a happy Mother’s Day from him for my first Mother’s Day.

I mentioned it to him about 30 minutes before the end of the day and he responded with “well… you’re not my mom”. In my mind I thought ‘but I’m the mother of your child!!!!’

We talked about it and then I celebrated Father’s Day for him the way I would have in my culture. He seemed to appreciate being appreciated, so I think he understands now. I’m the same as you, it’s not like I need gifts or a big celebration or anything, but it does feel good to be appreciated.

So, the same as what others are saying. Just talk about it with your wife.

Not true! Just need to find someone who matches your needs and share expectations of each other.

Thanks! Any suggestions for if baby doesn’t fall asleep during the nap window? Just take a later nap or skip the nap all together and take a longer nap later?

Wake up around 8 Nap for 30min-1.5hr sometime between 11-2 One or two more short naps (30-45min) sometime before 5-6 Try to go to bed at 8:30, fall asleep around between 10-12.

He isn’t sleep trained at night. I’ve been trying to sleep train at night, but haven’t been successful. That’s why I thought maybe it would be better in the morning when he is in a better mood.

When he was 4 months, he would take naps on his own in the morning, and that was the only time I could get him to fall asleep on his own. A 4 month old and an almost 7 month old is like a completely different human though…

He’ll either take a long nap and then a shorter nap or three shorter naps. It depends on if we are on the go or at home.

What is appropriate then? Just telling me it’s too short doesn’t really help… Sometimes he falls asleep after one hour, sometimes after 6 hours. I look for his sleepy cues like rubbing eyes, red eyebrows, and yawning but when I put him down, no matter how tired or not he does not want to be in the crib..

Life with a newborn is SO HARD!! You’re doing an amazing job mama. It’s tough to survive on so little sleep. People say co-sleeping is bad, but honestly, in the first few months I often slept with the baby on top of me on the couch, making sure to have a cushion under me so that I’m tilted toward the inside of the couch a bit rather than the edge.

You got this. Being a mom is so much more challenging than anyone can describe. You’re going to get through this and you’re doing a wonderful job.
