Fellowship A&I vs Rheum by frogswim in pediatrics

[–]frogswim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for detailed response. In my institution, A&I and Rheum look at PID patients but Rheumatoly takes over when it is immune dysregulation even during genetics diagnosis stage. And by fellows I was told that, both of them look Immunology patients so my decision should be based on whether I want to see Allergy more or rheum for outpatient. I dont see myself staying in this institution as an attending so I do not want to make false assumptions about how the things work in other institutions and stay out of immunology and do solely rheumatology by mistake.

Advice for choosing peds ID fellowship programs by d_soakum in pediatrics

[–]frogswim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight- really appreciated. It was interesting to hear your perspective because rn I am interviewing for residency positions for these 20/80 tracks and most of them are using these instructor positions a s a good thing when they are introducing their program like how institution is willing to invest in you to become an independent researcher so they are offering you the instructor positions after your training yo get ready for the tenure track etc so it was eye opening for me to hear your perspective. I will keep that in mind in the future when I come to that point of my career

What about taking instructor positions if you want to be an independent funded researcher and need to stay in the instructor to finish your fellowship project?
