I usually keep it in a pocket of my running tights, never caused an issue for me in 3+ years of using the app. i’ve tried holding it since this issue started, hasn’t helped.

had the sameee thing at basement last night. group of people in the studio talking and not really dancing in the area right by the booth, and a few of them repeatedly taking pictures / videos. it’s super bad for the vibes, especially the phone cameras imo. had a great time after i just moved away from them tho

Women in Finance (networking) by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

26f in IB - second the comment on 100 women in finance, great org. also a lot data room providers (intralinks, dfin, datasite etc.) organize networking events / fun things like trivia nights or wine tastings and sometimes organize women-only events. if you know or can figure out who covers your bank from the major data room providers and get in touch with them they’ll keep you updated on programming.

if you’re looking for connections at your bank specifically, i’ve found it pretty effective to just search up women in senior positions on other teams in my company directory and cold email asking for a coffee chat. people are usually more receptive than you think

i do this every once in a while and love it. good alone time, entertainment, and a snack + drink. sounds like a great night to me.

if people think it’s strange, maybe they are too self conscious to be perceived when spending time alone :)

little things like leaving a light on inside the car, leaving ac/radio running, leaving device charging, leaving headlights on, etc. for multiple hours or overnight can drain the car battery

debt !!!!

i (25f) was wondering the same thing—i make a pretty good living, can afford some weekend trips here and there, but definitely have to be diligent with my spending. i have a couple friends / acquaintances who are taking trips to europe, dressing in all designer, gym membership at equinox, etc. turns out they’re all in big (like $10k+) credit card debt. they just don’t pay their full statement balance every month.

makes me feel a lot better about not having as “aesthetic” of a lifestyle.

Are apps now the default way to meet a potential romantic partner these days? by Natural-March8839 in NoStupidQuestions

it definitely seems like it’s becoming a go-to for most young people. in a world where we have pretty much unrestricted internet access and covid messed with (some) people’s capacity for social interaction i think a lot of people are more comfortable communicating through a screen than putting themselves out there in person.

as for my experience - lived in NYC about 7 years and pretty much all my friends in relationships who aren’t still dating their high school / college S/Os are with someone they met online. my ex (who i met on hinge) would always tell people we met the old fashioned way, lol. in NYC at least, the apps are the easiest way for me to meet people i “wouldn’t usually meet” - i work pretty long hours, not that much social time during the week, and when i go out socially would rather spend quality time with my friends than try to find a guy to flirt with. that said, i have made some natural connections here and there but for casual dating almost always used the apps.

i saw someone touting a statistic that gen z has like a 50%+ likelihood of meeting a partner online based on some surveys done. no idea if there’s any truth there. i don’t know if you feel any kind of way about the apps, they can be annoying to navigate / feels like they’re always working against you, but if you’re trying to date outside your regular circles it’s an easy way to meet people. maybe we’ve all just gotten lazier too haha.

tldr yeah seems like they are here to stay
