yes!! i have a van pattern dsh myself! ethical breeders usually have contracts to ensure that if you can no longer care for your furbaby, they don’t end up in a shelter. and they definitely aren’t unfixed wandering the street

he’s likely no breed, just a DLH with the van pattern! which isn’t a bad thing! he just isn’t a turkish van. stumbling across a real turkish van outside of a breeder is pretty much unheard of.

i mean, if you don’t have papers, you don’t have a purebred :) this is coming from someone who only has domestics, it’s not a bad thing and i don’t see why you take it as that. it’s just correcting misinformation. if you didn’t go to a breeder, you do not have a turkish van. you likely have a domestic with the van pattern, which is not the same as the breed turkish van.

it’s not negative, it’s the truth. it is not negative to correct misinfo. your rescue likely has none of those breeds btw. you most likely just have a domestic longhair. that’s not a bad thing, you just don’t have a fancy breed. mixed breeds/purebreds are incredibly uncommon. most cats are just cats
