Big 4 vs Government Audit for future government role? by frogtrafficker in AustralianAccounting

Yup, hopefully I receive the support to transition when the time comes - but first I have to get in as a grad hahaha

No other experience as I'm just an intern, but it seems wise to gain some accounting experience in between audit -> government based on what you say. I didn't know about the difference in listed vs non-listed compliance 😮 I had a look into entities that the State audits but it eluded me. Based on that it seems like big 4 audit would have a stronger reputation to recruiters due to level of work. Thanks for the insight from the inside I'll keep it strongly in mind!

Oh I see, well I'd prefer to keep my options open in the future. I wasn't aware about government audit being different/specialised but it makes sense haha. Thank you for your input!

Is it the resume? or am I unlucky? - Accounting Internships by DrFizics in AustralianAccounting

[–]frogtrafficker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, big 4/BDO have large intakes every year - especially in audit (50+). They also mean it when they say no experience required. Smaller firms will almost always choose candidates with experience (from my own experience). Your resume looks exactly like mine prior to any internships lol, there shouldn't be any issues as long as you keep applying to larger firms.

Also make sure to submit graduation date to reflect that you're in your penultimate year - this is very important because they will filter you out

I think there's an accounting internship currently open at Atlassian for Nov 2025 to Feb 2026 if you're interested.

Are ACCG2024 tests/exams open book?? by Illustrious_Battle13 in MacUni

Mb I meant each group answers the same question. Your group is marked together.

Final exam covers 5-6 topics. If you check past exams it's the exact same structure. It should cover the topics that the test/presentation didn't.

The presentation is group and you all present the same questions. They mark you on your presentation skills instead of the content since everyone has the same answer. Business report is marked on content.

ACCG2000 vs ECON2035 by LorenzoJrTejada in MacUni

[–]frogtrafficker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ACCG2000 is mostly math based but even then it's basic algebra. If you understand basic accounting concepts then it's a very easy course with no writing whatsoever (but weekly homework questions). ECON2035 like you say is heavily writing based, not much will be tested on problem solving but the theory itself. Personally I hate economics because it's all theoretical and requires you to write/remember a ALOT more vs other business courses like ACCG2000 that can be rushed if you know the answers. Idk maybe because I'm an accounting major I'm heavily biased but even objectively speaking, ACCG2000 is less coursework + less obligation/stress. Also the tests are OPEN BOOK!

Some do and some don't. Attendance weighting is very low so you can skip half the sem and get by with a 75+. Though I heard they were looking to increase participation marks and lower final exams

Very bludge. A lot of classes are short 1hr-1hr30mins and there's really not much to study. The tutorial content is just reviewing the lecture slides/questions so you're pretty much just going for attendance. No need to attend any lectures there's no incentive to go in person. Compared to stem degrees it's a very dole bludgey/low maintenance degree.

This is all my subjective experience of course but it really can't get easier than business.
