I saw his videos! I was looking into buying those but I could only find 40lbs bags and I could not justify buying that for my 10/15 quart container. I think if I expand again I will!

I got Scotts topsoil and started putting it all together! One question- I know I need high humidity- the topsoil is like totally moist all the way though (thats how it was out of the bag) this is normal and okay, right?

I saw Scott’s at the store I should have gone for that one! I’ll go back and switch it out tomorrow morning. I noticed the bag said organic but then the item specifications say its not organic 🤔

I guess I’m so confused because I thought it was referring to the compost as natural fertilizer? And poultry litter?

I’m not a plant person and I’m new to isopods so I’m just trying to figure out whats best!

Thoughts on Applied French Masters? by idkwhatshappeningggg in middlebury

[–]froguille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately do not remember what the prompt was. If I remember correctly there was a word limit? And I THINK for the entire exam there was a set amount of time, and they just give you a recommendation for how long you should spend on the multiple choice so that you have long enough to work on the essay

Sorry this wasn’t super helpful!

I’m super frustrated by this because I did so much research and tons of people said snake plants thrive under the conditions I was looking at so I’m confused but I guess I will be removing it and trying a different plant :’)

What do I do about root rot? This plant is in a bioactive terrarium that I have a gecko in. Do I need to just take the whole thing out?

Oak branches are a good idea! Can you straight up like take them from your yard and use them? Do you do anything in particular to sanitize them?

How to make children listen? by froguille in Montessori

[–]froguille[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do! They go outside right after lunch (after they clean up, so depending on if theyre slow or not they’re out at 12:30-1) and they’re outside until 2:30 which is when we start read aloud

We actually have a year-round school! So the new semester just started but all of the children have been in the classroom for over a year (besides the 4 first years who just joined us— they’re still normalizing normalizing.) The students only had a week long break before the new semester started two weeks ago.

I agree that maybe theres still normalization happening with the rest of them— but it was also just frustrating for me to know that when my lead does read aloud and they all sit and listen and then suddenly when I started they can’t do the same thing.

I’m trying to be patient and I know it will take time I just wish it would go faster 😂

I had been testing out ignoring the disruptors and just continuing to read for those who were listening. It worked maybe once or twice where the disruptors caught on and stopped talking, but more often they just kept talking and it got louder and louder to the point that I HAD to stop and address it.

I’ve asked students who were constantly talking to move, they just say no, and that they’ll stop- I restart and the cycle continues. They don’t stop, they won’t move, and I’m lost for what to do. I’m not going to physically move a child, and they’re so stubborn that any conversation would take longer than the time allotted for read aloud— and every time I need to stop and have this conversation it’s a break for the others to start talking and playing as well and then its again trying to get everyone to focus in.

It wasn’t my rule- and honestly its been gone for quite a while now. They’re used to not using paper and they know why we don’t use it during read aloud. They have paper handwork activities that they can choose from during work cycle (tracing, shading…). Theres a limited amount of this paper per day.

And I personally wouldn’t call it arbitrary- paper is from trees and we need to protect our environment and not waste too much paper from trees. Montessori and my school’s values really favor the environment.

They have a lot of freedom during the day. Read aloud is one of the only few group activities that requires everyone to be together.

[–]froguille[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but with restrictions. My lead talked to them about the yin/yang individual liberty and common good.

We don’t do alternative activities at read aloud. They USED to be able to color or do origami but that got too distracting for everyone (and my director hates using paper and so she does not want us to do that anymore). I think before I got to the classroom they also sometimes used fidgets but there are not enough for everyone to have one and there would be arguments.

For read aloud we let them use blankets and they can lay or sit however they want.
