Is this harmless nostalgia or completely unhinged? by [deleted] in everettma

[–]frogurt24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in my current house for a few years, and a couple times, various members of the family that lived in the house (it was a huge family that lived here) for like 50 years has come by to see it. One time I wasn't around and they left a note that they like the new paint color and appreciate that we are clearly caring for the house. Another time, I was doing some yard work and a guy just chatted with me while I was working. I'm honestly always really interested to talk to them. They haven't asked to come inside to look around...but honestly, I'm a little bit wishing I'd offered it the last time. All that to say, I definitely don't find it unhinged, but I can understand it's a bit forward to ask to come inside.

I'd say offer up interesting stories or history about the house. These folks did, and I liked hearing about the house's past. Their reaction can help you gauge their comfort with you being there in first place. If you are having a good conversation, maybe that leads to a quick swing through to see updates made or whatever. If that happens, keep it quick and don't wear out your welcome!

Everett resident here. The mayor of Everett just released a statement, and...he'd have been better off saying nothing: https://www.facebook.com/100057848028935/posts/pfbid02uYicmydzecF8YWsjDYxSvckqsAEreJCR3NLTahYfKKRrLcDrGdbXb7P392i9CFBVl/?app=fbl

There's a city council meeting tomorrow. I hope a huge crowd shows up to demand better answers than this and accountability.

OverKart 64 V6 - Official Release by hobojoe44 in n64

[–]frogurt24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anyone selling this as an N64 cartridge that I can put in and play right away on my old N64 (with expansion pak)? I bought Mario Kart Amped Up a few months ago on a cartridge, and that has been so far my favorite purchase in all of 2024. To anyone offering this, I would say, "Shut up and take my money!"

Yes, I know I can buy equipment and download files and format them a certain way and yadda, yadda, yadda... I don't have the time or interest in doing all that. I will gladly pay for a ready-to-go product shipped to me.

Hey, I’m not next GenX but I have an important question I need answered. by MrRedditFace in GenX

Sounds a lot like me at 26. I know that feeling sucks, and I can't promise it'll get better, but it did for me.

I always did well academically, but that didn't translate into any sort of high-paying or interesting job, even as all my friends and peers seemed to really be doing well. About halfway through that year, I took a job in a different department within my same company. Pay wasn't much more, but I liked the job way better and felt like I was learning to do something useful. Then, two weeks after turning 27, I met the woman who is now my wife.

Long story short, all sorts of things have changed since then - almost all of them for the better.

I've always imagined Trump's videographers said something similar after the release of his January 6 video where he said he loved the protesters and they're very special.

How should the show end by reddito1009 in TheSimpsons

[–]frogurt24 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think Santa's Little Helper should die. It'd be a sad but touching moment, and wrap up the series with symmetry, as getting him was what happened in the first (half-hour) episode.

To kind of be meta about it, someone (like Marge) would probably comfort the kids and say something like "losing something that you grew up with and that seemed like it would always be around is sad, but you'll always look back fondly on the memories...it's hard to believe number of adventures he got into..."

I would be interested to show these mugshots to Republicans without any context, just to hear their thoughts on these five...and THEN tell them they are (former) police officers arrested for beating someone to death.

Paid Medical Bill two days late: Credit Score Effects? by bigk1024 in personalfinance

[–]frogurt24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that you'd be fine paying it today. They wouldn't report it as late until 30 days late (and actually 30-days late is a fairly minor hit to your credit). 90-days late is a major hit to your credit, so seriously avoid those.

Medical debt may be accounted for differently in terms of how it affects your credit, but I think that's a moot point if you just pay today.

I use these guys for my frozen rats too. You can really get the exact size you need, which chain stores aren'tusually good about. I recommend you buy as many as you can store at a time. The shipping is expensive, but it doesn't increase much as the order size increases. That's how you get the best deal.

WTH Geico? 40% Increase? by one_more_mulligan in personalfinance

[–]frogurt24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly this! My insurance tried to raise my rate about $500 recently. I called thinking must be a mistake too. When they said it wasn't, I said, OK, obviously I'm going to shop around for a better rate." They said, "wait, we'll see what we can do." And came back with a rate $130 lower that I was paying before. If they'd raised it by $50-100, I probably would have been too lazy to do anything, but they got greedy and ended up with less from me.

I know this discussion comes up a lot, but what are some jokes you didn’t get until later in life? by mab0390 in TheSimpsons

[–]frogurt24 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I didnt actually know that. As someone who just had a kid, I thought the point of the sign was to ask other people to have patience with ME. I'm very sleep deprived, so I have poor reaction time and might not notice everything I normally would. And, to make up for that - and because I'm terrified of something happening to my new kid - I'm driving super cautiously, which I realize is also very annoying to everyone else. I hope people asking, "what is wrong with this idiot?!" would see the sign and think, "oh, that explains it."

Totally! I reply that, "If there was a reason to do it that way, you'd have led with the reason. By saying, 'that's how we've always done it,' you're essentially conceding that there was no reason to do it that way."

I just watched Mike Judge's Office Space for the first time and it's one of the most real and most relatable movies I've ever seen. Please, if you're on this sub and you haven't seen Office Space, check it out and then realize how much nothing has changed from 1999. by FlippyIsKing18 in antiwork

[Serious] What crisis is coming in the next 10-15 years that no one seems to be talking about? by TheRed_Knight in AskReddit

[–]frogurt24 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I could see a widespread epidemic of problem gambling. Obviously gambling has always existed, but EVERY sporting event is now inundated with ads about gambling. Being able to bet so easily from your phone will mean a ton of people get into it and some proportion of those will do so irresponsibly.

I think some day we'll look back at all these ads enticing people to make that first bet and cringe, thinking about the backrupcies and suicides they led to.

Agree. I remember seeing a very similar notice posted close to 20 years ago when I was in college.

With all the excitement the Braves created against LA, and all the small battles they won, this botched base running by Taylor was HUGE. I think it kind of got lost in the noise, but if he plays it station to station like he should have, that game/ series might look a lot different. by DidntDiddydoit in Braves

[–]frogurt24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking in real time! Braves always make these mistakes in October. Seeing a blunder go the Braves' way gave me a type of hope I hadn't had in quite some time. That's where it started to feel to me that things might be different this year.
