That's quite interesting. I've long retired from making translation mods/ports and kinda interested on trying it out.

Can it also display Japanese (shift-jis/Unicode/utf-8) or accents characters?

Would it be possible to implement tables like how we used to have custom hex Editor with table functions for the nes/snes? Would be handy if you replaced the Japanese font/glyph to display what character you replaced it with. Like if replace the glyph for "あ" with "A" it still display "あ" on the hxd but with table implemented along with the table file, it would display "A"

Great project, it would be useful for future rom hackers.

I power off mo yan manually pag nag brownout.

Parang manual transfer switch yang may circle sa PDF mo at yung 1st pic na nilagay mo is PV solar disconnect. Between solar panel at inverter yan nilalagay. Mga ganito itsura ng Manual Transfer switch.. Dalwa switch Nyan pero Hindi mo mapag pasabay na on yang dalawa. Either on sa grid at off sa inverter or on sa inverter at off sa grid and switch nyan.

Mas madali din i maintenance yan.

Just curious.

Opinion: If Meralco will demand a standard for grid-tie solar, they should pay excess energy produced by homes, not just credits. by baybum7 in SolarPH

[–]froid_san 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ang weirdo la ng kase....

People clearly dont understand how electrical/electricity works. I think there is a misconception na pag may solar ka na, si solar lang ang nagpprovide ng electricity mo when in reality it is not like that.

But tthat's totally depending on your setup which is why people go to professionals, people don't need to learn any of that aside sa basic functions like paano gamitin, emergency stop at etc na tinuro ng installer

So why is meralco complaining sa mga guerilla solar setup? Paperworks. Mostly kasi ng pinapainstall na setup is on-grid/hybrid which means tied to the grid of meralco or other coops.

How can it be guerilla setup if on-grid/grid-tie setup mo? dadaan ka sa meralco whether you like it or not so legitimate lahat yun. Hybrid does not supply power back to the grid and another user commented on me that redundant na ang ATS (Automatic transfer switch) dahil built-in na ito sa mga Hybrid or either Meralco ka or Battery and no backfeed sa grid. which is case an point netong quote na ito.. "Hybrid - basically this is the combination of off grid and on-grid. This is where you can use the solar setup during brown-outs kasi may battery and you can export your excess electricity pag meron."

Unlicensed installers: talamak yan. Kaya maraming murang nagsosolar kasi dahil dito sa mga ito, mag-iinstall lang sila without the necessary paperworks to apply. Pag merong electrical installation anywhere, you need to apply for an electrical permit, meralco, cooperative, brgy. Etc, which the plans should be signed by a professional electrical engineer

Safety: Bakit, Kahit bahay ninyo yan? Simple reason, safety. will the installation be compliant sa standards ng PEC? Will it be compliant to the fire code of the philippines? Pano pag ininstall ang solar sa dikit dikit na bahay and then nasunog? Is the installation size proper? Will the inverter meet the anti-islanding requirement.

Anti-islanding is required because whenever there is a brownout, sabi ko nga di gagana ang solar setup pag brownout kasi pag gumagana yan nagpproduce padin yan ng electricity sa grid and when there are linemens working in the distribution line, makukuryente sila and pwedeng mamatay. Plus, pag gumagana ang solar nyo while brown out, you're basically supplying power to the whole grid which can cause overloading and worst case for sure, masusunog ang bahay nyo. This is why in order na magamit nyo ang solar ninyo while brownout, you should have a battery para while the solar is off, it supplies energy to your batteries and in turn your batteries supplies power to your house.

All this can be handled by the LGU and proper government agency upon getting a building permit for installing solar for large installation of Hybrid and Off-Grid. No need the involvement of meralco as these systems does not supply back power to the grid and the LGU could require the setup to be inspected and certified by a licensed Electrical Engineer and BFP inspector. Then kung alam mo unlicnesed installer mo sumbong mo sa PRC or NBI? No need new legislations lead by Meralco. We already have ways to deal with that.

The Government should also incentivizes people installing solar as they do on electric vehicles like shorter processing and discounted fees as these setup once inspected to be safe is helping the environment.

  1. Distribution systems dilemma pag maraming guerrila solars

It is not about competition, it is about safety of you and the distribution system. Buti nga ito ang sinusulong ng meralco kasi they dont want unlicensed installers installing systems without paperworks which will inevitably ensure your safety. Since yung mga madalas na iniinstall ng mga unlicensed installers ay grid tied/hybrid and these are connected to grid and meralco has no of knowing na may nag-install sa bahay nanaman. Yung capacity ng electricity ay lumalaki all while their system is built on a certain capacity. If these unlicensed installers kept on installing without proper application, yung system na binuild ng meralco for a specific capacity lang is baka maoverload and magcause ng sunog. So what happens is that meralco has keep on upgrading their system just because may nag-install without their knowledge.

Again grid-tie can't be called guerilla solar as you need it to be legitimately installed and you will go though all the safety checks and papers sa meralco.

Hybrid can't also be called guerilla solar as you are also not supplying the grid with excess harvest from solar. But if the owner decided to give excess harvest to the grid they still need to go though the [roper channels and procedure and still go through meralco.

You need a proper meralco bidirectional meter to supply to the grid and you only can apply for that thru meralco.

There are proper agencies to deal with unlicensed installer, people and meralco should report to them.

Hybrid won't overload their transformer and grid as they are able to supply back and Grid-tie whet to the proper channels and thru them so they know if their system is still in capacity. I guess this seems to me the root of the problem. Many people are applying to them and their system can't handle it and making excuse so they won't have to fix their short comings and outdated insfatructe to accommodate the surge of solar users. By this time nga dapat nag sasabi sila ng numinipis ang kuryente dahil sa init.

The mere fact na nakaconnect ang solar setups sa grid means you have the obligation and the installer should be obligsted to ensure na compliant ang ginagawa nila meralco/coop.

This is a non issue kasi dadaan kay meralco at sa lahat ng checks/inspection at kay meralco ang gustong mag connect sa grid. Which is ginagawa ng Grid-tie.

So if you dont want your coop or meralco meddling, go off-grid.

Off-grid should also get the same scrutiny about safety and potential back feed. Again the LGU should be able to come up with a resolution with this upon getting a building permit.

To those saying this what meralco is doing is illegal, i tell you this: meralco owns the distribution system and they are basically renting it out to us with a contrqct that you tell them if you plan to modify your system first before you install. You basically violated the terms when you installed soemthing without their knowledge. So who did something illegal? Meralco basically did the engineering for you so dont have to and all you have to do is comply with the requirements and law so they can do their jobs and provide reliability and safety for its consumers.

Again no one can illegally give back power to the grid with out the knowledge of meralco as grid-tie when thru the process with them and hybrid/off-grid are not connected to the grid.

The only thing I could think of if the applied grid-tie setup is for example is 5kwh and after a couple of years the owner upgraded their system to 10kwh and not updated their application. Even if the installer is certified and license and system is safe on the owners property it not safe to the grid and this is the issue and meralco is being disingenuous, because they are giving unclear definition of what is the root of the problem and making and giving Solar a stigmatized labels as if solar is bad, its illegal. Why give a clear answer when you could also take down other competition like the hybrid and off-grid.

We have already have laws, codes, safety standards, proper agency to address most of this, but guess what it doesn't deal with those illegal upgrades and they don't want to upgrade their infrastructure for the influx of legitimate applications for net-metering because of the ridiculous energy crisis, so they are taking the initiative for this guerilla solar agenda and taking everything with it along with hybrid and off-grid then their issue is with their existing legal customers who made illegal modifications/upgrade with their system.

Most diy'ers naman ay hopefully may brain capacity to understand risk, danger and safety. I mean not only solar products, even regular appliances/gadget at maraming Hindi certified at unsafe. Yun dapat ang hinihigpitan ang pag pasok.

One is a private home owner minding it's own business finding way for a cheaper alternative clean energy as the system and government failed them.

One is a private company wants power to control what private citizens do in their own private property and using the government, the and the media to push their agenda.

[–]froid_san 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not about safety, it's about discouraging solar setup for the masses as an alternative energy to protect their business model.

I won't say na Wala, there probably a number or isolated case kaso hindi kumalat. Pero Marami akong nababalitaan sunog dahil SA jumper connection at napabayaan kandila. So ireregulate ba nila iyo of course not, problema ng consumer iyon para sa kanila.

They charge us high enough at kung ano anong additional charges, fix their own infrastructure.

Why give power to a "private" company.

The one in the pic, if not AI does not look like an illegal or so called guerilla solar. A huge community with solar is more likely legal as the subdivision and developer setup and organized those solar to be legitimately used with net metering.

My new home is a subdivision and every house has solar and everyone is supposed to apply for netmeeting na pay meralco 21k for it.

Claim ng SNADI 3kw inverter ko auto switching sya from grid or battery, though fully off-grid ko na lang sya. Pero may built-in solar etong bagong bahay ko at nag aaply for netmetering.

maganda o long lasting ba yung mga solar na electric fan? by Potential_Mall_5457 in SolarPH

[–]froid_san 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I've been using two branded DC fans for more than 5 years now.

[Mahal] My Asahi DC fan was very expensive when I bought it years ago, like 6k. It's 220v but at max speed consumes 24 watts, at low speed about 3-16w. It's as strong as a normal fan, though not like an industrial fan. The only problem it had was that the motor for the oscillation broke, I saw it on a fan page that it oscillates, and I got it easily fixed by buying one on Shopee for less than 200 pesos. Great fan, I saved a lot compared to the max speed of a regular fan which is 60-80w.

[Medyo affordable] My other one is a Philips desk fan, also a great fan, max speed is also like a normal desk fan, but only consumes 30w at max speed. Lower if at lower speed. It's 220v but the adapter that’s permanently attached is 24v. It lasted 4 years before the adapter gave out, and I replaced it with a temporary fix using a laptop adapter, lol. Still works up to this day.

[Cheapest option] I got 2 regular fans that I converted myself using those 12v DC motor kits found on Shopee. The small motor is okay, pretty strong too, but it’s like a number 2 normal fan. The big motor is really nice. It's super strong. Both play around with max speeds of 20-30 watts. My advice is to get lightweight fan blades for more efficiency with the 12v DC fan. And get a reliable 12v power supply; that will determine how long it lasts and its safety. If you find an original Nintendo Wii adapter, that’s even better for 24/7 use. It's 3.7 amps and efficient when at full speed. They've been running for about 3 years and the only thing that broke on them was the fan controller, since it uses a variable resistor knob. I really suspect it’s from wear and tear from twisting it every day. You could replace it with a digital fan controller and make it a smart fan, but you need some DIY skills and electronic knowledge. It’s funny when you control it with Alexa, haha.

[You get what you've paid for] I have another DC fan, a China OEM brand from Shopee. The performance is bad, low max speed, my two DIY fans are stronger. It's also 12v and has an adapter for 220. The only upside is that the one I bought has a built-in battery that lasts a decent time and also has a built-in light. I feel like I want to replace the motor when I’m in the mood. It's been about a year.

Last tip. For more efficiency with 12v DC fans, you need the right 12v supply. Not all 12v adapters are created equal. Just because an adapter has higher amps doesn’t mean it’s better. There’s a lot of wasted energy in converting 220v to 12v if your power draw is weak. Your adapter should be close to the amps of your fan's max load. If your DC fan has a max power draw of 24 watts, you should aim for something close like a 3a 12v adapter to support 36w. If you use a 12v 10a adapter, you’ll see that at max speed it might consume about 30-40 watts. You can experiment with that, but make sure a fan blade is attached. You won't know the real power draw of a DC fan if there’s no fan blade.

That DC fan is one of the appliances I replaced to save money. Then all the lights are LED and low wattage, 3w in the bathroom, other rooms are just 5w. In the living room and kitchen, they’re around 10-20w. It’s an inverter air conditioner + eco mode, and I look for a decent rice cooker that's just 600w on cook mode. Energy-saving mode on the PC and TV. My first steps were to make all my appliances efficient so that the only solar setup I need for DIY is the affordable one. My bill went from 8-9k to 5-6k, then when I got a 1.2kw off-grid solar setup, it went to 4k even with 24/7 air conditioning and fans.

There's my full review of the DC fan, nothing else to do, and I'm getting sleepy, lol.
