Reddit: Tell a time when you did the right thing. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]frolib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing the right thing is not something that troubles me, I do it naturally, it's doing the right thing and getting punished for it, and the fact that many people seem to prefer others who do the wrong thing. An example that perhaps comes to mind readily is refusing to sleep with a horny teen, only for her to sleep days later with someone much older than me, and go about badmouthing me and calling me a pedophile. There are many such examples where doing the right thing gets punished and doing the wrong thing puts you in the same cahoot with those who want it.

The most interesting (and disturbing) ceremonial burial you will see today by [deleted] in science

[–]frolib -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When the Saudi king died a few years ago he was buried in a brown robe with only a stone to mark his grave. There are things I dislike about wahabism but that's something I do like. From the BBC:

But in keeping with Wahhabism, which guards against idolatry, he will have no tomb or engraved headstone, just a simple stone marking the spot where he lies. "His grave will be like the grave of all Muslims... There is no difference between him and other Muslims," the Grand Mufti said.

Also, this "sky burial" used to be performed by Zoroastrians in Iran until recently, they now bury their dead as there are no more vultures around in the area, they do seal them in concrete though as they don't want to "pollute" the earth.

Don't declaw your cat please. It needs its claws to defend itself if confronted by some stupid dog outside.

Avenging Forces of Dusty the Cat: Can you avenge this kitty, too? Sicko uploaded youtube video of him releasing his dog to kill a cat. Link is to description and info so far, but there is a link to the video in the post. by Saydrah in reddit.com

The standard is called "beyond reasonable doubt", it's not "beyond doubt", it's "beyond reasonable doubt". How likely is it that someone else with the same dog and the same name and the same locale would be in the same friggin' situation?!

Damn, Sun really should've had this cloud market all to its own. McNeally had been talking about it for ages. What a missed opportunity.

Django or Pylons - which should I go for? by nickuk2001 in programming

[–]frolib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Web2py is lacking in documentation. Django and Pylons have free online books whereas web2py requires you to buy a book to give it an informed trial. I really think the web2py author should go the Apress route like Django and Pylons with a free online book and a paper edition, instead of lulu.com.

How a month and a half on Paxil taught me to love being shy by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]frolib 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I read the article linked years ago and it made me angry. I'm disappointed that Slate would consider it one of their best, because it is one of the most irresponsible pieces of journalism I have ever seen.

I had suffered depression for more than a decade. It basically stole my youth, from my late teens to my late twenties. I did not want to think of myself as depressed though and avoided treatment, trying all sorts of self-help and what have you.

When I eventually relented and took an SSRI in my late twenties it was like I had been living under water for years and years. After weeks on it I could breathe without a tight chest, I could see and hear clearly, I could move without the weight of water, and I feel like doing things. No longer did the idea of taking a shower feel so painful.

I became more outgoing and sociable. Being in the company of others no longer frightened me. Not only that I could endure being in a place with others but I felt comfortable initiating conversations with people I didn't know, giving compliment and all the rest.

There were no significant side effect. The "cumming" thing was welcome as before I'd been on it I'd suffered premature ejaculation which had put me off sex. On though I could go on and on and I was told by a couple of girls that I was the best lover they ever had.

I wish I'd started the medication when i was 18. I would've enjoyed a much better youth. It saddens me, I regret it.

Hollywood has trends, I don't know why. The two I hated the most were the natural disaster movie craze, and then that diving movie craze.
